  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

I have been listening to music from the early 1900's right up to 2010, And all I can ask is what the bloodly well happened? Music used to be filled with rhythm and melody; purpose and soul, It didn't damage the English language but instead used used the language with the occasional poetic license to express the sentiments of the composer.

Each decade had its own value, but probably since the late 80's little of worth and nothing of classic value has surfaced. What happened?

    Here are two prime examples.

Love Is The Sweetest Thing - Al Bowly

Didn't the Village People write a song about that?

    If you dig old music:

    www.radioyesteryear.org.au

They broadcast over the net and in the 2metre fm band from the central coast of NSW.

Their range of music is from 1920 to 1979

    Enjoy

I have said that good music stopped being produced when you finished high school. Sounds like you are just starting to learn that. Welcome to adulthood.

Music is changing because our psychological understanding is improving, music has adapted to use your instinctive need for repetition against you. I like party music, but some of the oldies music is good, it just has to sound right and be good to listen to in certain moods. you could say that the only reason music changed is because we changed.

The thing is good music was NOT produced when I was AT high school. It was the stuff ten years before my birth was when the Music died. (If you will excuse the obvious attempt at ironic humour.)

I took a trip to Memphis, TN in January where there was a perfect combination of all influences to produce the finest music anywhere. Sun Studio where Elvis Presley recorded his first hit is there. Stax Records is also there. This is the true birthplace of rock and roll. All of the great music come from this cradle of the South.

I personally support artists that keep the flame alive by playing music that is from this era. There are on radio stations that play this music as well. They are all community supported ones. here is a list: http://www.gumbopages.com/other-radio.html

You're not looking in the right places.

Every generation bemoans the 'shit-ness' of music.

If you have any suggestions, I would gladly hear it. I am running out of Cole, It is hard to find his new stuff on account of him being dead and all.

Well, what are you looking for, really?

If you want to discover new stuff, then places like Last.fm are perfect - you can type in the genre and it'll generate a radio-station for you based on what the tracks have been tagged with. Pitchfork [though I hate to recommend it] keeps up with new music.

From the two tracks you've posted, I'd say that you seem to favour hot jazz, swing, and perhaps cabaret. The sad news is that [a] part of the nostalgia-factor you're experiencing is based on how they sound, which is an awful lot to do with primitive recording techniques, and the world that existed to generate such works is gone, and gone forever.

The 1920s to 1940s was a time of ridiculous hope, bravado, and head-burying. People genuinely thought the Great War was the war that would end all wars; they were writing and existing in a world that believed the only thing that humanity could go forward to was a life of pleasure, leisure, and ease. As technology advanced, people expected to see developments to improve their lives, and improve themselves.

As the shadows of WWII loomed, people started to become increasingly nostaligic and fanatical about the 'golden era' of the 20s and early 30s. Instead of daring to think about what was coming, they lost themselves in a fantasy world, a world where no shells fell, where no trenches were dug, where men were gentlemen and women were soft of thigh.

The world has woken up, now. WWII banished that naivety for good, and with it went the music. If you tried to write that kind of 20s swing or hot jazz now, you would be laughed at.

If you wish to understand my point a little further, I suggest you either read or see the play The Glass Menagerie, by Tennessee Williams.

It is not just the early half of the century I like although I understand your point, I merely referenced them for there melody, I like rolling stones, Elvis, The Beatles, Generic Jazz, I also don't mind classical or single piano, But my issue The values that used to give music value (melody, tempo, rhythm, the great crescendo leading to the clash of a Cymbal), Modern music is just so lacking; replaced in stead by repetition of white noise and some poor music behind it.

Complete bullshit. Utter, complete bullshit. Here's the rub, my ol' china: Modern music is not defined or delineated by what's popular or 'on the radio'.

You want jazz? Start with the Neil Cowley Trio; Radio Silence is a brilliant album. Lee Morgan's album Sidewinder is also amazing.

You want crescendos to the climax of a cymbal? Listen to a Japanese post-rock band called Mono; the latest album, Hymn To The Immortal Wind, features an orchestra and has dramatic, pulsing crescendos in spades.

You want some foot-tapping rhythms and neat guitar licks? Look no further than country star Brad Paisley, the man who took the cringe outta country for me.

Less whining and more lookin', boy! :)
