I see this thread has 52 views but only 5 responses. 3 from me. Guess the rest of the 47 people who came here where to chickenshit to hear how religion is a blight on this world.

 

I do watch Pat condells videos, he's not afraid to push the boat out. I don't always agree with everything he says. But I see no sense in attacking him on those points like some atheists have. If we are divided then our ability to take the fight to religion is weakened.

That sounds somewhat the opposite of amiable. Dare I say, fanatical? Oh irony, how I embrace you so.

"Quickly now! We must defend ourselves from these religious zealots! Had they their way, all our children would be taught only what they believe!"

"Quickly now! We must destroy these religious zealous! That way, all our the children will only be taught what we believe!"

It is a persuasive argument, I'll give you that. Though I think it is also the reason I remain an agnostic with strong sympathies for the religious. Somehow, in our modern world, it is the atheists who always appear to be the most fanatical in their attacks on the other side, all while condemning the fanaticism of the other side, and espousing tolerance. Of course.

 

When black people overcame racial segregation, they were not divided. Same with womens rights and gay rights.

If atheists spend time arguing with other atheists over whether it is ok to criticize Islam or not, their rights are not being heard.

Religious people believe that being religious entitles them respect and to be free of criticism. when it does not.

 

I suppose you are one of those mighty oaks of intellect who finds it good practice to throw wet noodles disguised as analogies at a wall disguised as a point, and pretend one has stuck.

Am I to believe that you truly believe the religious are hosing down atheists in the street? Taking away their right to vote? And finally telling them they must sleep with a bible? Perhaps I am, but it is too unbelievable. I know why you used the analogies you did, because they garner the largest amount of sympathy when used. However they simply do not fit here, and I'd prefer you take into account the sense of what your saying, rather than simply considering the emotion of it. Beyond anything else the comparison is not simply silly, but sad.

What rights of atheists are not being heard? It would seem to an objective viewer that the public spotlight is quite squarely on your shoulders and you are the only side being heard. Why exactly are you complaining, beyond the mere action of habit?

If you are not completely ignorant of the times then you know that the pendulum has swung. Crosses are coming down, not going up, religious thinkers are being attacked, not praised, and the educational system, which very nearly raises the children of the modern world, is becoming wholly secular. If anyone should complain of not being heard, it is the religious. Yet you and yours seem to exist in the year 1750, demanding rights you already have and attacking enemies who died 100 years ago. The Roman empire is gone, the king is dead, and you are not the persecuted.

 

Have you ever been to Iran, Saudi Arabia, Syria? There is more to the world than America. In order to show the way to the rest of the world, atheists that have the luxury of a democracy must continue to make their voices heard here.
