For some time now, I and several other members of this forum have become concerned and increasingly frustrated by the frequency of threads being de-railed.

As a moderator on this forum, I am posting this thread in response to the requests that I have received, and to politely ask all members for their cooperation in keeping our day-to-day chat within the bounds of the many threads that invite friendly banter.

What is frequently happening, is that threads are being posted that are quickly being swamped under a tide of irrelevant conversation, by a handful of members who should know better, and who are encouraging new members who don't.

I'm sure that you can see that if this continues, people are just going to give up posting threads that are asking genuine questions, who need help in some way, or just want to present a topic for interesting or edifying discussion.
This is essentially what a forum is!

Forum members who know me well, will also know that I am always up for fun and a bit of a laugh, it is one of the things that first attracted me to this forum, and I'm sure that for many, it's what makes us keep coming back every day.

I only ask that members give a little thought to what, and where they are posting and if it is contributing to the topic of the thread being lost, otherwise,
this forum will cease to be a forum, and just become a chat-room.

This place REALLY needs a chat room.
Banter threads just don't cut it when the aim of a person is to socialize rather than post real answers to questions.

I don't see why a java chat or something couldn't be added by management here. These "off topic' banter threads consume a LOT of bandwidth. I don't see why a text chat .. even flash perhaps.. would be worse as far as cost to xnxx than these aimless html serve banter threads..

I fully endorse your view. I have also felt the same way. I was thinking can this forum become a fighting platform! Once I posed a genuine question, some replies were so bad I felt bad to read them.One cannot elp such things happening in a forum where members are in large age range,say 18 & above,ethnicity, mindset,chiding,anonymity and so on. There can be a provision made to delete unacceptable comments/views by the initiator of the thread, so that other members have not to read them to get discouraged-some forum have this provision.If the initiator does not delete them the Administrator can do the same with authority.
Infact I joined this site mainly for pornsurf and forum participation. I am very happy to see all the posts coming here,particularly pics which one may not find elsewhere. I thank all those members who keep this site lively:rose:

 

It is not up to us to make the decision when it comes to issues like putting up a chat room. Nophest said that he thought it was a good idea long ago, but hasn't done anything more about it

I more or less stopped reading the general discussion section, because I got tired of reading threw endless chat scripts.

Monitoring chat online is a tricky business... I think... other then that I can't see any reason why not.

I have installed heaps of chat progs over the years..

They are either free (crap) or cheap now days..
Install very quick.etc.

The only thing I can see with XnXX is they have opted for custom scripts..

They 'may' decide they want a custom chat script integrated to the current one.. well. .in that case.. no wonder they haven't done anything..as it will be expensive and take ages to do..
still.. it would be easy to link in from here to a stand alone chat.. 1000s of sites have that after all..

 

Well, I think if you had a regular chat room like fan said, along with the threads,,,,,,,,,,you might get rid of getting off topic in the threads,,,,,,,,,,?

 

I know I've been a little out of hand lately about playing on different threads...It's not something any of us do on purpose, we just start laughing and playing and forget...
I know today we all worked harder on staying on the three threads(off topic, flirting and conversation)...I can't say I'll be perfect but I will try harder not to derail any..........My apologizies to the members that it has bothered.........RP:rose:

 

Thank you Chunky, you are dead right, I put up the Off Topic thread a while ago in a direct response to Caffeine’s concerns about every thread being derailed. It is there, it is well used, but the same people that use it continue to derail almost every other thread. As well as being damn rude it is selfish in the extreme and has made what used to be a very interesting site pretty boring.

When I first joined derailing was the norm, I participated until Caff pointed out that it undermined the value of specific threads so I agree with what you say that new members are influenced by the established behaviour, I was, until the protocol was explained. Hopefully we can have a fresh start before the site is dead and people will be polite enough to use the 'banter' threads rather than derailing.

I have not seen Caff here for a while, I think he may have gone the same way as Rain, Bored and frustrated off the site. It is a great shame and the site is less rich.

Yes it takes discipline to keep on topic on a thread..

I have spent most of my years on the net on webmaster boards where repeat off topic posting will get you banned.. and since they are biz boards.. its not like you want to be funny etc..

BUT.. on a social forum the majority of people want to say hello.. flirt etc..

I note a general tendency to posts like

1) serious question..
2) serious answer..
3) serious answer..
4) BS answer
5) sexy provocative answer
6) compliment or other answer to last poster..

And now the thread is finished as regards first question.. BUT.. I think also the majority of readers have decided they can't add better advice than the first two serious ones most times.. so next posters goes back to flirting etc..

The big thing would be for people at number 6 to go to private message (but they know they ,maybe wont get an answer) or they could be told to go the chat by a moderator.

I note the biz boards will often have a mod pop into a thread to remind folk to keep on topic.. stop flaming etc..

Like, you have reminded us NOW.. BUT.. I guess its needed when an outbreak occurs.

 

We do have the facility to remove posts Rajoo, but it is very rarely used, except where the poster requests it..eg. where they change their minds about intimate pictures or double post.
We do not indulge in any kind of censorship of individual posts, unless it is spamming or under-age material.
That's what keeps this forum a free, interesting and lively place to be!

 

I remember sometime back FF, where you posted to say how relieved you were to see a light Moderator touch on this forum, and I thank you again for that!

I think we benefit greatly from that light touch and I sure don't want to be a forum cop!
I'm a member of this forum, like everybody else, and I came here for stimulating discussion, a bit of fun and my portion of tits and ass!!

But, as a moderator, and without 'nannying' I need to listen seriously to the PM's that I get, hence this thread.

Some people do want to see tougher Moderation, there's hardly a day goes by when I don't get a message from someone saying ..."Why don't you ban this Motherfucker"....but we don't.

Oh by the way, while you're here...I've spent about 10 hours over the last few days editing a story...now the writer wants me to do Part 2, and I can't face it........

okay, now that I actually read this, I'm glad you have some support in this chunky and I will support you too. I just have to remember that being here for so long means I'm responsible for keeping things the way they should be and especially for knowing better than to derail threads when I was one of the people who bitched about it before. I give you my word that I will try my best not to derail a thread and if a new member talks to me about anything but the topic on hand I'll remind him/her to take it to PM or IM and stay on subject

 

Hey I stand by it. You do an excellent job.. That's why I mentioned the boards I refer to were business boards.. they were heavy handed because membership meant money.. so you know.. here it's a social forum.. personally I feel many times the answer (or enough of them) have been given to the satisfaction of the posters/readers before they degenerate into play.. play being kind of spontaneous and fun
