I think there are less children working as paper boys, lawn mower kids, etc, is because parents tend not to let their children have the same freedoms as in earlier times. There is certainly an increase in traffic and cars on the roads, that fact alone makes it more dangerous for children to be out (probably according to their parents).

The increase in older workers would possibly be because of a couple of reasons: cost of living getting higher, people not able to retire due to failing pension schemes, and the fact that the average age of those living in the west is rising, due to things like better healthcare and medical advances.

The reasoning is not so much black and white, but a myriad of greys in between.

Oh and yes history books will have some factual information in them, however you can not get away from the own authers own opinions, which is why you should try and do a thorough literature search, gaining all perspectives before you form your conclusion.

 

The example of today's media would suggest otherwise.

If we look at the Israeli/Palestinian conflict for example, we can see first hand that media reports are hugely bias toward the Israelis. However, if you speak to Palestinians, or people who visit Palestine, a different story unfolds, and the Palestinians are being treated no better than the Jews under Hitler's command.

We don't hear about the two-tier road systems, the Israeli settlements encroaching on Palestinian land, or about the decimation of olive groves. We don't hear that because Israel has the backing of western governments, whereas Palestine does not. It does not, however, mean that it isn't going on.

Just another point I'd like to make in edit: Do you know how many Palestinians have been shot with tear gas in the past two years? I can't remember the number off the top of my head, but there have been deaths from Palestinians being hit by the cannisters. Something else the western media isn't too keen on reporting.

The US's problems are extremely layered and extremely complex. It is flat out not possible for your country to have the problems we have to the degree we have them because our problems have been there since the beginning and have only gotten more complex/complicated and been added to since then.

You're not getting it. They're not allowed to have opinions otherwise it's not considered a legitimate source. It's not literature. It's a giant compendium of all of the historical facts that have been verified.

Actually, everything going on there is quite known. It is impossible to keep things from getting out in this day and age.

History is not the reciting of the events, it is the study of what surrounded the events. Every person sees things differently than the next person, these nuances affect the recording of history..
