The president of the United States cannot be held responsible for the price of gasoline. I never blamed President Bush when that price went up during his presidency. As more people in China and India drive cars, and as petroleum deposits are depleted, the price of gasoline will continue to rise.

Most of these problems are connected to the unemployment rate, and the deficit. On several occasions I have said that soon after Obama was inaugurated, and when his approval rate was close to 70 percent, he should have hiked the top tax rate, and hired people directly in programs like the Civilian Conservation Corps. Even tenguy, who actually voted for Obama, agrees with me on the need for something like CCC.

Corporations have plenty of money. They are not hiring because of weak consumer demand. Weak consumer demand exists because corporations are not hiring.

If the government hired people directly, they would have more money to spend. Consumer demand would go up. So would hiring. As more people went back to work, tax receipts would also increase.

Unfortunately, Obama underestimated the severity of the employment situation, and forced through a health plan most Americans do not seem to like, and one which may be overturned by the Supreme Court.

Nevertheless, when Ronald Reagan had been in office an equal number of months, the unemployment rate, which had been higher than it has been under Obama, was 9.5 percent, which is to say five points higher than it is now.

Sixty-seven percent say an agreement to raise the debt ceiling should include not just spending cuts but tax increases for the rich and corporations, while 25 percent disagree...

Seventy-one percent say they think the economy is in recession and though Obama has been in office for nearly two-and-a-half years, most still blame his predecessor, George W. Bush, for the recession. Fifty-four percent say Bush is to blame more than Obama; 27 percent say the opposite.

President Obama promised bipartisan negotiations on health care reform would be televised on C-SPAN, but the reality was that Democratic Senators and Congressmen had meetings behind closed doors that did not include any Republicans. President Obama even attended some of these meetings, which indicates he endorses, or even encourages, this partisan approach.
Rather than go line by line to identify and eliminate earmarks as he promised, the two budget bills and stimulus bill passed under his watch contain over 13,000 earmarks. The 2009 deficit will be between $1.5 and $1.9 trillion, and at Obama’s urging the Senate just passed a bill that increases the national debt ceiling by $1.9 trillion, bringing it to nearly $14 trillion. In contrast, when President Bush left office, the national debt was $10.8 trillion.
It’s easy to understand why President Obama’s approval rating is so low among conservatives. In their view, President Obama has been the fiscally irresponsible, partisan president they feared.
In recent weeks, left wing websites like the Huffington Post and Daily KOS have started to criticize President Obama, which is not good news for Obama. The Huffington post published a piece about the demoralized Democratic base, saying "destroying a political base often isn't only about one single issue... it's about a set of issues and, even further, an overall feeling of demoralization -- one that can't be turned around a few weeks before an election with some cynical press releases and inspiring speeches."
President Obama must stop being the Campaigner in Chief, or Organizer in Chief, and start being the Commander in Chief, the leader of the United States and of the free world. On the campaign trail, Obama was able to change his position and the promises he made, based on the group he was speaking to. As President, he can no longer get away with that as the bar is set much higher.
During the campaign, the critics of President Obama said that the only real experience he had was running a four year campaign.

And as of September 30 2010 the national debt is $13,561,623,030,891.79. So President Obama had added a little over $3 Trillion to the national debt $1.3 Trillion of which he inherited from George Bush.
