The breakup of the United States would almost certainly be economically catastrophic. Also, I doubt that the fall of the United States would be as peaceful as the fall of the Soviet Union. The United States is increasingly polarized into two sections of people who hate each other. That hatred is easily visible on this internet forum, and on others where politics is discussed.

People from other countries must think that the United States is going insane, and I sort of agree.

I admit an unemployment rate of 9.1 percent this far into a Democratic administration is an embarrassment. Shortly after his inauguration, when his approval rating was close to 70 percent President Obama should have imposed substantial tax increases on the well to do, and hired people directly.

This would have had an immediate effect of reducing unemployment. The additional government employees would have bought more, encouraging employers to produce more, and hire more.
