Who is to blame for this epic collapse and who should be gone next year??

I will weigh in after I see what some of you folks think.

 

Who cares boston sucks and is just as bad as the so-called evil empire that is the yankees. The only that spends more than you are the yankees and you cry and whine that they are better than you, because it took you a hundred years or whateve to win a goddamn world series thats what you get for selling the greatest talent in baseball ever! Boston is just as bad as NYC, in it's conceit that everyone cares about whats going on there and what their teams are doing. I'm a fan of the most beloved team in the U.S., the Pittsburgh steeler, I have been to boston and been to a steelers bar , u won't find any shitty Patrioit bars here, same with new yourk and dallas, have been to stee;lers bars in both places, what other team can say that?

Being a Bosox fan for more years than most in here have lived, it's nobodies "fault". It is a bitter disappointment that I have learned to live with many times over, "September slump" and "Red Sox" go together like flies and horse shit, you find one, you'll usually find the other.

 

The Red Sox should completely clean house (not get rid of EVERYONE, but almost half the team is useless and/or over the hill).

I agree that they have become like the Yankees Annex. They spend and spend and spend and sometimes (twice in the last decade) it has worked, but most of the time just spending money is not the answer.

They supposedly have one of the best farm systems and highest number of prospects in the majors. What they SHOULD do is work on building up a good, young, less costly team over the next five years (so what if they finish third or fourth in their division for 3 or 4 years) and THEN spend money to keep the contender that they have built up.

The Yankees should do the same thing if they were smart. Just one current example is Ian Kennedy. He was a Yankee, but as a young pitcher, he never got attention, grooming or a real chance, because the Yankees had to re-sign Roger Clemens, for Christmas sake. Instead, he floundered with them and they traded him away. Now he's a 20+ game winner.

If there is a root problem with the Red Sox it is that they have been trying to emulate the Yankees.

Big mistake.

When good teams fail to play thier best in big games ( like the NBA Miami HEAT did and the MLB Red Sox ) the reason is often psychological.... They " choke " in big games mainly because the fail to remain focused on executing properly....

It may have been his fault after all, he blamed bad chemistry, which is the managers job.

I agree 100%. Tito was a class act. He treated the players great, never throwing one of them under the bus, EVAH! And from the sounds of things, this bunch,(or some of them at least) repaid him with blatant disrespect.

 

The Eagles for one. The Phillies for another.

Pittsburgh is no better than Boston. There are so many bandwagons for the Steelers it's not even funny. The Eagles sell out every year, even the years that they sucked. The Flyers had huge attendance even when they had the worst record in franchise history. On top of that, I'm tired of this whole "we're so working class, so tough" shit. This isn't the early-mid 20th Century, and the fact is that this side of the state has always been better and every bit as tough and concentrated around manufacturing. We just happened to not throw it in everybody's faces and parade it around.

Don't get me wrong: I feel for Pirates fans I really do, but the rest of you are no different than Boston or New York or LA or any of those other bandwagon cities.

The Heat lost because they weren't put together correctly and because the match-ups weren't the right ones, among other things.

There's no order on that team, and they need a real coach who can make the players all fit into the system the way they need to, not the way so and so wants to.

As for the Red Sox: They're the model for how to run a franchise. That doesn't always translate to MLB success but that's the fault of the people putting together the MLB team, the players playing on it, and the managers making the decisions.

Teams have bad years, no matter how good they are. The Red Sox won two WS in the past decade, within five years of each other, and the second one was with a completely different, revamped, and majorly farm-produced team. They'll be fine.

There is a lot of truth to this statement! Everyone wants the Yankess success, BUT, it's like we have become what we hated.

A bunch of big name free agent signings does not a team make.

They are in a world of hurt and deserve to be polishing their golf clubs!

So true!! My kid (he's 10) asked me why it is such a big deal when a Boston team wins a championship. After wondering if I needed to test the kid's paternity, I realized that he has NO CLUE. In his short 10 years, he has seen a championship in all the major sports in Boston.

I also explained to him that when there were only 2 men on the planet, the 1st man threw a rock and the 2nd guy tried to throw a rock further...it's what guys DO!!!! Why else do you think you can find lawnmower racing on tv?

Anyways, 3 or 4 decades of being a Red Sox fan is certainly a great character builder and will prepare you for life better than the public shcools.

Personally Tenguy, Wed. night was the toughest baseball night for me since game 7 in '03...VERY tough to swallow!
