A few years back- 2007, I believe, the last time the Red Sox won the World Series- hundreds of college students and punks raised havoc in Boston's Kenmore Square after one of the games. They incited the police with verbal taunts, shoving, and eventually projectiles. Very much like the present OWS rallies.

Individuals are smart. Mobs are mindless.

The mayor (Menino) had already castigated a similar post-game mob, on a previous evening, as "a bunch of hooligans," and had demanded that the police maintain order.

At any rate, several overturned cars and smashed shopwindows later, the police used rubber bullets, which of course are lethal only at near point-blank range, and only on 1-in-10,000 shots.

An Emerson College undergraduate, Victoria Snelgrove, struck paydirt. She took a rubber bullet in the eye and perished, right there on the street.

Fast forward to the Occupy Boston rallies.

Menino (yes, he is still mayor, and running for a sixth term) won't drive them out. He doesn't want to kill another Victoria Snelgrove.

But they are destroying the park, vandalizing property, and now they have posted Facebook death threats against a Boston police captain.

I feel for Mayor Menino. He is in a tough spot.

But can anyone guess what is going to happen, inevitably, if he doesn't clean that mess up, and lets them sit there in the Boston financial district and come to a boil?

The Oakland cops: they get a pass from me. Hell, even Mother Jones, as radical and leftwing as they come, is telling OWS to grow up, and go home. They're a movement without a cause. Pathetic.

 

I already told you Ace. We don't need no stinking permits. We've got the First Amendment of the United States Constitution.

You bunch of brainwashed parrots want to get in line and pretend you go ahead.

We are out to protest. Not buy fucking permits.

Too bad you haven't checked the laws. In certain circumstances it is not a violation of Constitutional rights to require a permit AND to require insurance for any demonstrations on public property. In many jurisdictions, it is completely allowable to refuse overnight camping where sanitary and safety are at risk.

That's what it took to make moms and dads march in the streets and end the Vietnam War and I doubt this one will be anymore peaceful.

National guard shooting civilians, I somehow doubt that will happen again, unless the protesters are armed and threatening the peace.

Any law that prohibits protesting is against the constitution, very few can do anything about it because the little man don't stand a chance against the government and they know that. If the government feared the people in the slightest, laws like the communists in Nashville wrote this week wouldn't stand. But they know no one will challenge them, and if they do just put them in jail. Fucking communist country.

 

There are no laws against civil protesting.

There are laws to be followed, as you do your civil protesting, and laws that are being broken in this ''OWS protests''.

Nashville

 

Nashville is a law? I thought it was a good size city, but what do I know, I just live here.

Now as to the law in Nashville, and in the state, regarding organized assemblies on public property. If you are going to organize a group that will occupy a space which is a common area for everyone, you must apply for a permit. This is a matter of public safety and health, with the permit process the authorities can properly prepare for the crowd.

Since our laws prohibit overnight camping in such public places, it is easy to see why the OCCUPIERS are in violation. Repeated refusals to heed these laws are what prompted the late night arrests.

So if you want to protest, do it peacefully and follow the laws regarding such assemblies. If you want to carry a sign around the State Capital, you are free to do it 24/7 without a permit. If you want to rally a group to occupy the space, you can do it by obtaining a permit and not camping overnight.

So tell me, how is civil protest prohibited?

No you don't get it at all Ace. In fact you don't understand the first thing about the protests which is that all the laws, rules, regulations and ordinances in this nation are designed to protect the richest 1% at the expense of the other 99% about. So what we are really protesting is the rigged game which includes ordinances and regulations that try to limit our first amendment rights.

Like I just said we are protesting those laws as much as we are protesting the greed and corruption of the top 1% of this nation. Because obviously the game is too hopelessly rigged to win by playing by your rigged rules.

Actually it looks like many of them in New York are going to jail. They've uncovered two different scandals in about that many weeks.

But I'm also afraid since we've actually been living in a police state for more than 10 years where many police no longer believe citizens have rights this could get really messy as the protests lingers on and spreads.

Especially since there's sings the protests are having some desired effects.
