I knew you were going to dig that one up and it is only a personal opinion and I can think for myself in saying it, plus I was 17 at the time and made a clear decision whereas a younger person would have fear cloud their judgement in a situation like that and would in all likelihood not share my view and consider it more of an assault.

For me it was simply a thought and I never said it was okay but for some it is a reality that stays with them all of their lives and they might not have been given a "choice" due to fear at the time.

Your contention is that it is less of an offense for a female adult to commit this against a minor than is a male adult to a minor and that is not the case.

My situation was a desired outcome on my part, initiated by me, and at 16, I would have been considered a young adult seeking a relationship even though under the law, still a minor. Was I raped? Absolutely not. Was it illegal? Yes. Even though initiated by me and consensual, even today it is still considered statutory rape. Under the law at that time she would have likely faced an extremely harsh treatment and sentence. Would that have been fair?
Many young teens and definitely juveniles, are not emotionally or psychologically equipped to understand the situation of a sexual involvement. If it's a predatory situation, it shouldn't matter whether it's initiated by an adult male or a female. Charges should be equal, and punishment should be both severe, and equal.
In my case, I was seeking a relationship, but many young teens in somewhat similar situations, are seeking a seduction only, and to some extent, in that scenario the adult can become the victim. Even though society and the law suggests they should have the strength to walk away, some adults are simply not equipped to deal with the sudden and calculated attempt at seduction. But the situation is that they are still involved with a minor and there are consequences. If proven that it was initiated by the teenage minor, should the adult still face the more severe of punishment for being seduced?
As an adult, over the years, I've been approached by a couple of older teens, but have walked away. But then I'm a little hypersensitive to the situation because of the questions I've had over my relationship at an early age along with some guilty feelings and questions as to me putting her at risk. Had I been selfish at wanting our relationship to continue even though she could face personal ruin if discovered? It's a question that's plagued me my entire life. It's this question that ultimately ended my correspondence with her after she'd moved home.
Media manipulation along with current day music and related music videos have drastically changed the views of sexuality amongst teens. The implications could well be that we'll see much more in the way of adults having encounters with teens who are older, but legally, still considered as minors. Under the current laws, headlines could start having a much higher incidence of statutory rape. How will we as a society deal with this? The law is the law, and people will face ruin as they become discovered in these illicit affairs.
