One of the things I like best about XNXX is its stand against censorship. It is not always easy and this is one of those cases but we've had them before. Censorship in anyform weakens us all. For those few who would like to see Sweet Arab banned or censored, there are thousands if not millions working delegently right now to have all pornography censored or banned. If we support censoring Sweet Arab then we at least in concept support those calling for banning or censoring pronography.
The most simple solution is to take the higher road and simply ignore these posts. Short of that, then let the fur fly. There are no rules that say we have to play nice, and somethimes there is a lot to be gained from slugging these issues out if that's what it takes.
I have read the thread Sweet Arab posted and some of the comments were just about as ugly and offensive as what Sweet Arab posted. I don't see us creating threads to have those forum members banned or censored, nor should we.
There is no right contained within the concept of free speech to not be offended.
And I would beg to differ with some who contend that ignoring these threads does not work. I've seen it work several times since I've been on this forum.
The real problem in my opinion is what Chunky pointed out. Sometimes, some people want to take offense so they can retaliate in kind. The simple solution in that case is to just ignore those responses also.

Well, I certainly to take back anything I have said about banning Sweet Arab. You are correct in the censorship aspect of this, and that banning Sweet Arab is the wrong move to make.

However, I stand by the motion to move posts not relating to porn to be moved to the General Discussion thread. "Pics & Movies" is (I believe, but I may be wrong, and correct me if I am wrong) used solely for asking for, displaying, and commenting on porn.

I would like to use an analogy, if I may:

When you play soccer or football (for you non-American folks), and some freak kick sends the ball into the stands. Is the ball still in play? What if a player decided to run into the stands and keep playing, and then the whole team did, and before long the fans are being trampled by players who want to play the game outside of the playable area.

There is a certain area reserved for playing the game, and to step outside that area is a violation of the rules of the game.

In the "Pics & Movies" section, if you do not use it as I have stated above (and once again, I may be wrong about what is proper in that section), you have 'played outside the bounds.' I had assumed that when chancing upon this forum (after looking at the main age and reading stories and contributing stories for years) that this forum was dedicated to porn and sexuality, and that therefore other posts would be restricted to the "General Discussion" area. Heck, there are even restrictions on the porn in the first place. Pics depicting child porn is not allowed, for instance. (If not for the moral qualms, there are certainly legal reprecussions for it.)

Perhaps even this suggestion will not occur (and I won't blame you for it. I have no intention of telling anyone how to run their own website). Maybe it's just me, but I hate mob mentality. As chunky said, some people love it and love to be part of a mob. That's a concept I've never been able to grasp. But you are right, I did realize I was oppressing one's rights on this site by asking for a ban.

Maybe I should even concede the motion to move the non-porn posts out of the "Pics & Movies" section, because, heck, while it doesn't get my rocks of, as chunky said, most people get off on it, just perhaps not in a sexual way.

I guess this truly is a site for whatever floats your boat, as long as it's (apparently) legal. I guess that makes it a very good site.

Chagrin - the 'pics and move section' does say ".. or whatever you want" in the content information. Therefore, it is not against the rules to have something other than porn there. Just a thought.

Being from the US myself (and I would not be sure if this applies to any other countries), I know that our very first law created is that everyone has the freedom of speech, including any speech they want, even if it's offensive to someone. There is no law whatsoever that says you have the right to not be offended. Somone may say something you find offensive, but you also have the right to ignore them.

Simple case: if you feel that people should not say offensive things, we would not have Elvis Presley. The parents of the generation that listened to him thought he was obscene. Ditto Beatles. In more current events, we have Eminem, Marilyn Manson, and so on. I recently read an article about the FCC getting tons of complaint letters because Prince played at the half-time show at the superbowl and people took offense.

You know what was once considered offensive?

THE WALTZ. The fucking waltz was at one time considered offensive. As in, dancing to orchestral music. "A proper women should not act as if she were of a lower class." (I paraphrase, but that was the expressed sentiment. As in, don't act like a whore.)

What you consider offensive may not be offensive at all for your children's generation or their children's. We, as civilized people, are more lenient today than yesterday, and tomorrow we will be more lenient still.

In my opinion, beheadings have no place on a porn site, unless someone actually gets off to that, in which case, since murder is illegal, it would have to be a simulated beheading, not a real one. But the admins are allowed to police the site for problematic material (the example stated far above was that of a poster who was spamming), and it is their good judgement to decide what is a problem and what is not. Apparently, an offensive poster such as Sweet Arab does not raise their red flags. The best any of us can do is to ignore him/her.

Of course, the difference between the US and the Internet is that the Internet is not a country, and therefore is not a democracy. The admins of this site have supreme power and ultimate authority over this site, and are therefore the Kings and Queens of xnxx, and can censor as they please. They choose not to.

In essence, this petition thread is useless (except that it sparks intelligent debate on the subject, which I can definitely call a good thing). The only thing that will get Sweet Arab banned are things that he/she does herself, (such as spamming, apparently) and no matter how loud we shout, we have no effect on his/her banishment.

But we still have the right to shout. So, YAY!

 

That's true, it does say that. In which case, this site is no more than a generic forum, whose only specialty is a "Sexuality" and "Personals" sections, with links to porn and porn stories. It's members, also, are heavily bent toward porn.

While I, by no means, can judge or have any effect on what belongs in what section, or what this forum is truly about (and truly, it is about anything you please), I made the original assumption, upon discovering the forum, that it was a forum to display porn, find sex partners, and show off sex stories. My bad.

 

One of the greatest things to me about this forum is that there aren't really any rules. To me at least that is why it not only remains interesting but also surprising.

I think it also speaks well for us that obviously even though we usually share a great interest in sex, sexuality and pronography we are not just a bunch of mindless perverts.

Yep, that's the only one I've ever had. I realized how hypocritical I was being by suggesting a ban on Sweet Arab, and that's why I reneged that idea. Some people, even some people on this site, want to take censorship to the next level (thoughtcrime), and I would never want that to happen. I hate censorship, and it was ridiculous of me to have suggested any in the first place. I can only imagine that I was caught in a weak moment, or angered, and I am very glad my suggestion was not taken. I hate hypocrites, but sometimes I discover I am one. That's my own personal unpardonable offense.
