Since the OPEC Oil Embargo of 1973 the American people have had plenty of warnings and plenty of time to find, not only alternatives to petroleum, but alternatives to automobile transportation. Whenever the price of petroleum declines Americans think the crises is over, never to come again, and they start buying gas guzzlers.

The price of petroleum will fluctuate, but it will continue to fluctuate upward. If the American people had sense they would tax gasoline as heavily as it is taxed in Europe, and they would use the money to subsidize public transportation and bicycle trails.

Here in Canada we produce our own oil and our gas is more expensive than yours. Its all about greed. OPEC sets the world oil prices and if your country is part of OPEC the oil and gas prices will remain high if you produce it or not.
