When both drilling and oil production are the highest they've been in years and we are exporting gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel for the first time in more than 50 years.

and only 15% of the land and deep gulf that is leased by the govt to oil companies is even being produced or explored but they want to lease more just to sit on. And the govt has another auction coming up in about 30 days...so what more can you do there...

as for royalty the oil companies are pissed the govt wants to get 3/16 like what is now being paid on private rights instead of the old days and the 1/8.

 

I once read somewhere there are more than 30,000 oil and gas leases that companies are sitting on. I don't know if that's true but I do know they keep millions of acres locked up and out of production because they are just sitting on the leases.

You know what Obama should do? Cancel all the oil leases on federal land, or let them expire, and set up a government-run oil company to take them over. Why should private oil companies be entitled to oil on federal lands, or offshore, which they are then free to sell on the world market?

 

The Republican argument could be debunked by any first-year economics student...even the ones who haven't yet shown up for class.

And here's what I honestly do give President Obama and the Democrats credit for. After working in the oilfield most all my life and watching the price of oil since the 1970's by everything I've seen so far under normal circumstances the price of oil would be somewhere between $150 and $200 per barrel.

So they are doing better at holding the speculators at bay than anyone is giving them credit for.

 

Now this really shows what a total uninformed bullshitter you really are RickyRoma. Both Oil production and the number of active drilling rigs are higher than they've been in years. Way higher than they were when Bush left office after oil had his a record $140 per barrel under his watch.
