Thanks to the Obama administration and Democrats in congress Saudi Arabia has agreed to increase production to make up for the decreases in production in other parts of the world.

Saudi Arabia moves to calm oil market

Saudi Arabia is taking steps to cool the overheating global energy market, boosting its exports to the US and re-opening old oilfields to expand production, as the world’s largest oil producer tries to prevent damage to the global economic recovery.
The Saudi cabinet on Monday said the kingdom would work “individually” and with others for the “return [of] oil prices to fair levels”. Riyadh recently said it aimed to keep oil prices at $100.
“High oil prices . . . can lead to negative effects on the global economy,” the cabinet agreed, according to a summary carried by the official Saudi news agency.

The measures by Riyadh come as other countries in Opec, the oil producers’ cartel, also boost their exports. Iraq is bringing about 300,000 b/d of fresh sales on top of current export of about 2.1m b/d with the opening of a new oil terminal in the Gulf. Saudi Arabia also believes that fellow Gulf countries Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates would be able to boost their exports by several hundred thousand barrels in an emergency.

Simply to prove that the calls from the Obama administration and democrats in congress for Saudi Arabia to increase production preceded the Saudi's announcement.

I've been pointing out all along that President Obama and the Democrats are handling oil prices brilliantly and holding the price down even though actual production has been cut severely in several oil producing nations, including Sudan, Lybia, and Nigeria to name a few.

 

That would require him to spend some time learning about economics and how things really work. He's too busy studying at the feet of Marx to do that.

Right now, oil price per barrel under Obama is $106.25 gas is $4.39/gal

 

Today I paid $3.99 for gasoline, and $4.39 for diesel.

2 weeks ago, I paid $3.79 for gasoline and $4.09 for diesel.

 

On Feb 4th, I was sitting at Fridays eating a burger around 8pm when I saw the gas station through the window change pricing from $3.29 a gal, straight to $3.59 a gal.

 

We cannot satisfy US demand with US oil. We can't even come close. We've already extracted all the cheap, easy to get oil. You know why land based production is up (fracking, tar sands)? Because oil is over $100 a barrel and these are expense ways to get oil. Gingrich says he can bring the cost of gasoline down to $2.50. How? Do you hear anyone from Big Oil saying that they can deliver gasoline at that price? Nope, and you're not gonna. And guess what else guys. Big Oil is happy as can be that oil is over $100 a barrel. They'll be even happier when it's up to $150. And the GOP wants to keep paying them subsidies while they keep raking in record profits, and paying their executives millions (or tens of millions).

Despite record gas prices Democrats killed another Arctic drilling project this month. This came after Obama’s recent move to block the Keystone pipeline project. US gas prices at the pump have doubled since Obama took office.

Despite this reality, Energy Secretary Steven Chu told a House panel today that he would give himself an “A” for his handing of energy policy under the Obama Administration. Gas prices are now twice as much as what they were when Obama came into office three years ago.
The Daily Caller reported, via Free Republic:

Energy Secretary Steven Chu told a House panel Tuesday that he’d give himself top marks when asked to grade his policies’ effects on energy prices. Rep. Darrell Issa, the chairman of the House committee on Oversight and Government Reform, asked President Obama’s top energy official if he’d grade himself with an “A minus” on “controlling the cost of gasoline at the pump.”
Chu responded by saying he’d give himself a better grade than that.
“The tools we have at our disposal are limited, but I would I say I would give myself a little higher in that since I became Secretary of Energy, I’ve been doing everything I can to get long-term solutions,” Chu said.
Chu would give himself the top grade on gas prices despite that fact that the average price for a gallon of gas just hit $3.87 – the highest ever recorded in the month of March, according to ABC News.

Chu gives himself an “A” and Obama gives himself a “good solid B+” despite the fact that the economy is in the sewer and gas prices are soaring. Either they’re delusional or that was their plan all along.

Has there ever been a legal conviction of an oil company gouging? A local gas station maybe but an oil company?

You also forgot to factor in the devaluing of the dollar and inflation.

Sure more dollars are going to the oil companies but profit as a percentage of income is staying about the same.

In Illinois, sales tax is applied to the cost which the retailer pays which includes all of the per gallon taxes. So we are being double taxed on gas.

The graph does not contradict the statement. The article cites a record for the month of March.

Chu is the moron who advocates achieving parity between American and European energy pricing models. (He claims to have recanted to Congress, but it's sort of like Galileo crossing his fingers behind his back in the presence of the Pope.) Even though European countries are a fraction of the size, have entirely different population distributions, commuter flows, and transportation models. The man is a clueless, utterly unqualified hack who is committed to driving American productivity back into the stone age, so we can give the Earth back to the flowers and birds. He's a green apostle of Laureate Gore. An idiot. A mixed nut.

I think energy should be free for everyone. Like contraception, and Internet porn, and health care.

It's only fair. Energy is an inalienable right. We're the 99%, and we will not be dismissed, or whatever, blah blah blah.

And we should get it from someplace else, too. Someplace that gives it to us for free. Because our flowers and birds are more important than their flowers and birds. Because we can see ours, and not theirs. Or something.

Free, in any case. Or the oil companies should be prosecuted for price gouging. Because prices shouldn't go up.
