And here's another perfect example of how badly we're getting fucked over here. The last time gasoline approached $4 per gallon the price of oil was a record $140 per barrel. Now we're paying $4 per gallon while the price of oil is between $105 and $125.

 

Hell west Texas crude is 102.68 right now. But the problem is they are not as bad in the oil market as now they are in the RBOB gas market 3.30 so there is a disconnect on the standard crack spread.

Out drinking yesterday with all my right wing friends and they are sick of the Republicans again. They don't like Obama but yesterday almost all of them admitted they thought Obama would win. They also admitted that even they thought the Higher Up Moneyed Republicans backers are trying to wreck the economy so that Obama would lose.

 

That's what I'm starting to get out of most my conservative friends and they are really dyed in the wool conservatives out here. But there's just no anything on the GOP side they like.

I do hope however that the Obama administration jumps right in the middle of the speculators. That's something I think they could do.

To think that domestic drilling, according to the 'tree huggers' is a terrible idea.

 

Petroleum is an essential ingredient of most plastics.

There is no arguing with these people. If you try, they will tell you that we can convert the raw materials of our technologies from silicon and petroleum to hemp.

Really, Aces, what are you still doing here? I mean, admirable and all, don't get me wrong. But what are you wasting your time for?

This week in the WSJ there was a story about how cap and trade is approaching a crisis point in Europe. I find it hilarious, because the moonbats absolutely demand cap and trade here, and won't let it die.

Here is what's happening.

Many European governments have put pseudoscientifically based caps (translation: arbitrary caps) on the carbon emissions of various industries. Those industries can either upgrade their plants, or buy "carbon credits."

Great idea.

Except that the technology required to achieve conformance with the caps does not exist.

And even if the technology existed, it would be essentially caving into blackmail, because the caps are arbitrary, and are essentially moving targets. If a company ever succeeded in achieving its carbon quota, the government would just move the goalposts.

This scenario has long been suspected by cynics, deniers, and other bothersome sticks in the mud. Well, now there is proof.

It seems that in Germany, Italy, and other countries, the market for carbon credits is collapsing. Since the recession continues to drag on with no end in sight (despite the Obama administration's insistence that the world is in recovery), production has slumped worldwide. Result: increasing numbers of industries are meeting their caps, without making any green improvements at all, and glutting the market with credits.

No one is buying the carbon credits, so the prices are collapsing.

Trouble is, many of the present owners of the credits are taking baths on their portfolios, and these are the same lefty-green assholes who rammed cap and trade down the throat of the Eurozone in the first place.

The proposed solution?

Freeze the permits. That's right. Deny new applications for caps, forcing new industries to buy credits for all of the carbon that they produce. This, says the twisted logic, will create a shortage of carbon credits and prop up the prices. Sort of like the way small cities cap the number of taxi medallions, to keep them expensive, and deny applications to build parking garages, so that people will have to feed the meters on the streets.

There is only one little problem with this brilliant plan: it will halt all industry. So, the countries of Europe are all strong-arming each other and trying to trick each other into being the first to do it.

Typical, the way the "fix" for the bad idea is worse than the bad idea itself. Cap and trade is a disaster, and now they propose to cure it with an even bigger disaster: to freeze the industrial sectors of the Eurozone.

Freezing an economy. Gee. That sounds faintly familiar. It is exactly what happened to the locomotive, steel, and copper industries in Ayn Rand's Atlas Shrugged. Socialism not working? Too many outside influences gumming up the works and spoiling perfection? Fine, then. Pass new extra-legislative regulation, and make everything stop.

Like Keystone.
Like the refineries.
Like drilling production.
Like nuclear plant production.
Like the coal industry.

The truth is that the era of easy economic growth is over for America. What lies ahead are zero sum game struggles between groups of Americans who dislike each other. Meanwhile, Communist China out produces the United States while buying up our national debt.

If you have kids, try to get them to learn Mandarin.

It is easy for me to imagine the division of the United States into two or more countries. The fall of the United States will be viewed internationally the way the fall of the Soviet Union was. Most people will blame our fall on our more laissez faire economic system, just as the fall of the Soviet Union was blamed on the failure of socialism. Unfortunately, I do not believe the fall of the United States will be peaceful like the fall of the Soviet Union was.

 

It is so comforting to know that YOU have given up on America and her exceptionalism,,,how will a socialist like you ever be able to live without the tax payers handouts??

 

I am not getting any of those handouts.

BTW, I cannot think of anything exceptionally good about the United States. Sorry, I can't. Everything I like about the United States is also true of the countries in Western Europe, and the British Commonwealth.
