16 sounds about right to me, any older and it won't be practical to enforce.

 

It should be a "complicated" 16.

Any sex between or among children under 16 that could result in pregnancy or the transmission of STDs should be illegal, with the offending parties (sorry if you are 11, Fred) going to jail. Let these snotty kids learn THEN about sex from some buck in prison).

16 to 18 should be legal, but only between 16 to 18 year olds.

If you are over 18, you should keep your fucking hands off those 18 and younger, unless you are MARRIED to them (in the cases where legally you can marry under 18). That way, if you are 23 or 33 or 43 and so hot to get with a 17 year old, you have to marry her first or go to prison.

In Nevada, the legal age of consent is 16 IF the partner is no older than 20, is not in a position of authority over the younger partner, and is not the same sex.

If any of those three are true, the age of consent is 18.

 

Where I am from its, 18, I hear in mexico its 12.

I feel that is too young. I feel that 16 is ok, but 18 is better, just becuse of what could happen when you have sex, STD's and Preg.

In uk it is 16 and not 18, unless you are in position of trust to the teenager involved (i.e. teacher and pupil) in which case it is 18.

I realise that you have to set a limit but i have known girls of 15 who are much more mature and sexually aware than some in there 20s.

I think 16 is a reasonable age.

People are individuals; a blanket age that dictates when someone is ready for sex is kinda silly. The key is it being consensual. The law's best benefit is it helps deter some from attempting sex acts against children.

Remember, just because your jail bait crush turns 18 doesn't mean she's going to develop an interest in YOU.

I do remember my embarrasement when, paying a visit to a family, their four or five years old daughter has jumped on the arm chair where I was seated, put herself into the cowgirl position and... started dry humping me like crazy!

For the average, I would just say that 16 should be OK.

They are supposed, at that age, to do understand the risks of unprotected sex...

As you point out, you have to impose some kind of limit or else its a green light for all the child abusers out there.

I think 16 seems sensible enough. If kids decide they want to start earlier then provided a significantly older person is not involved then there will not be any legal action in any case.

I would have to say the age of 16 is were it should be at. Since i know of a few girls that had sex well under the age of 16 and a few at age 16.

 

I think the age of consent should be 16 nationwide, no little sub rules or crap in the way. If you're 16, you should be able to have sex with anyone you want.

 

The problem with the age of consent being 16 in all cases is that this sometimes gets screwed up when girls lie about their age. I know a guy who is the nicest guy you could ever meet and had a really huge and bright future ahead of him, then was screwed up when the girl said she was 17 (and had fake ID) and he ended up in jail because she was 15. Even the girl's mom lied to him about her age. He was 19, got jailed for almost a year, then got 4 years probation on top of that, and has to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life (the state he was charged in doesn't have a "Romeo and Juliet" clause). Keep in mind he met her IN A 21 and UP CLUB.

I'm a woman (not interested guys - got a man) and I think it should be 14. By 14 you may not always make the best decisions but you should still be old enough to know right from wrong. Also I think that more states need some flex on these laws (Like the "Romeo and Juliet" clauses that some states are adopting) so that a 19 year old doesn't screw up his life because a 15 year old wants to lie about her age. And I know that if I wanted to at 14 or 15, *I* could have pulled off looking 20.

 

I agree. When I was around that age we all knew our shit. It should be 14. In Canada the age went up from 14 to 16 maybe 5-10 years ago sadly.
