Same will be true here. They will in all probability arrest the people responsible for this. When it took 50 days and national outrage to even get Zimmerman charged with a crime and his bail for second degree murder is half what these assault and battery defendants are being held on.

 

Perhaps the Judge realizes how weak the charges are against Zimmerman?

Or, perhaps it is because Zimmerman is not considered a flight risk?

Perhaps you are unaware but, bail can be increased or decreased based upon many factors -- most importantly, evidence.

In one case the assailants have been literally video taped doing their deed. In the other, the evidence is muddied at best and exists mostly as hearsay among competing parties. In one case, there is no possible claim of self defense. In the other, there is. There is no comparison to be made here. The judge made the right call in both cases based upon the evidence at hand.

The purpose of bail is to keep obvious offenders behind bars until the court date arrives, while allowing those who may be innocent a chance to walk free until trial. While you may wish all the fires of hell upon Zimmerman, surely you would not prefer a system which imprisons a man for a year or more without any definitive evidence against him? Such behavior would only increase the fear of those people who are simply trying to protect themselves; knowing they may be spending years in jail just to win the chance to prove their innocence.

 

The only way you can compare the two is if the KKK came out and started parading around with dead or alive posters. Then I would say they were treated the same.

 

If this does go to trial I will lock my doors in the day of the verdict. If Zimmerman is found innocent riots will ensue within the black community.
