  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

And let's have the grammar winner and the story with the most punctuation winner. And let's have a winner for the best use of the letter K. Let's have an upper case winner and a lower case winner and let's have the second place winner be named the winner. But let's not have a winner because that would be too American.

 If this thread were an irony competition, the above would win by a landslide.

I woke up this morning...to all of this. Phew. Lots of fire and brimstone. I'm not gonna' add to any of it. I'm gonna' hope that when I wake up tomorrow morning, it'll be May 1st, all of this will be behind us, and our lovely Ejls will have posted the 11th Hunger (love you, Clarise! :rose: )...I mean, 11th CAW information, and we all ponder our assignment.

Imagine...having to write a story without using the letter "y" in any of your words. Imagine...having to write a story having to use the letters "q" or "z" or "x" at least once in every sentence. Imagine...writing about no God in heaven. It would probably be easy, if you gave it a shot. There'd be no hell, either, down there. All you'd see is just the blue sky. Would you, could you, just live for today? Here's the rest of it...

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
Imagine all the people living life in peace

    You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
Imagine all the people sharing all the world

    You, you may say
I'm a dreamer, but I'm not the only one
I hope some day you'll join us
And the world will live as one

And no...I won't be posting song after song. :)

For today, in the words of Chief Joseph, I will fight no more forever.

Horse, +1 on your post, somewhere above, advocating the elimination of voting.

I would advocate that voting be replaced by critique, but no doubt we'd have apoplectic "contestants" finding out where each other live.

My Hunger Games thread is lost on page whatever... in fact all of my posts are lost wherever... probably for the best....

If sometime in the future, the elimination of the voting system we have now is considered, I re-recommend that it be replaced by a system in which each entry has its own poll in which the readers can leave a response in the form of a numerical rating and a critique comment.

For those that still want a contest there is nothing to stop them from counting up individual scores, seeing who has the most points and declaring a winner. Those that want categories can compare the scores of those stories entered in a specific category. The point is that the writer would get specific input. For example, if a writer got a low score but gets comments that said the readers didn't like stories about people that have sex with household appliances.... they would know that the low rating was not so much about their writing but the subject they chose to write about.

I'm not suggesting this for CAW11. There is too much acrimony for anything to be done now.... but maybe sometime in the future.

I enjoyed reading it for a bit...but then there were posts that were starting to give away some of the story, and since I was just getting through the first book, I stopped reading it. I'm now into Book 3. I can say that I have no where near your literary assessment and critique skills. I like what I'm reading. It could be that I look for something fairly easy to read these days. I was reading a Tom Clancy book a few months ago and just put it down. Too difficult. I think my mind is weakening. Anyway, what I find a little strange is the way that she purposely stays away from any sexual awakening or thoughts. It's all very vanilla/generic, and I suppose that's to draw a certain audience, albeit not exactly realistic. Then again, if it is a formula for financial success, which is better, making money or making a run at a Pulitzer? She may not be good enough for the latter, but she accomplished the former, which is still a good thing in these bizarre economic times.

Nobody seems to be understanding that the idea is to make future CAW challenges EASIER, not MORE COMPLICATED.

If someone does not want to be in a competition but simply wants a critique, just post your story on the forum.

At risk of derailing this lovely thread (by rights I should take this response back to the H.G. thread, but I am in fact pleased that it has dropped off the front page), I would suggest that the virtual absence of sexual awakening, as a theme, is a consequence of the fact that the series is targeted to twelve year olds.

Now for a doozy of a confession, given my distempered rant: I have seen the movie!!!

Having both read the books and seen the movie, I will now concede that the franchise succeeds in each and every one of its objectives. For what it's worth. And to Suzanne Collins, it is worth a great deal, indeed. I doubt she is spending a single moment soul searching over the tragedy that the books will not earn a literary prize.

Agreed. I meant it rhetorically. Of course it is a competition. Of course there must be a vote. ;)

Boy am I hearing that. Really, I think relatively little has to be done. The biggest problem with the way things worked already was just that a few people have bad attitudes and a few people were underhanded...and there's really not much to be done about either of those things.

There is an old saying about a caballus and aqua that I think applies but I'm not going to get into any of that. Let's see what ejls comes up with and let the games begin.

Fuck off you idiot. You are one of the worse. Everytime somebody shows a hint of disagreeing with you or your precious friends you jump on them so fast. If there is anybody here who seems to create discord and arguments, it's you.

You have come up with several terrific ideas. I'm just afraid that the limitations of the software here on the site, come to issue. I think another thing we have to consider is that not everyone is going to vote on each story. You can put the option in, but it's been proven no one reads every story and therefore will not vote on something they never even clicked on.

I also question how you could keep that many stories at the top of the page, without making them a sticky. I'm pretty sure Lemark will have an issue with that. I am reviewing people's thoughts on this thread, as well as the many pm's I received.

Thank you so much for participating in such an intelligent, non-confrontational manner.

Thank you for giving my suggestions some thoughtful consideration. I hope my reply addresses some of your concerns.

Thank you for your kind consideration. If you have any more questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me. My only interest is to make the CAW Challenge the best it can be by keeping it: fair, entertaining and a good resource for both readers and writers.

For various (not unpleasant) reasons I've been away from the forum for a week or so, therefore I've missed out on this thread.

I haven't had the opportunity yet to read through all 237 previous posts, but a cursory glance has made my head hurt, there seems to have been a pointless battle amongst a number of writers, of which several of whom in my opinion rank with the best authors on this site.

Leaving the inevitable in-fighting to one side, I would like to repond to Ejls' original Opening Post.

As a previous CAW winner and frequent competitor, right back to the very first compy a few years ago, I think it's a shame that we need a draconian set of rules, as the original intent of the CAW was simply to give us all a challenge as a bit of fun, an interesting exercise.
It was one which brought out a wealth of stories spanning as wide a gamut of plots and scenarios as one could imagine, and it was enjoyable and rewarding both for the authors and the readers.

Sadly, the fun element seems to be in danger of disappearing as the competition becomes more and more serious, with entrants and readers accusing each other of multiple entries/votes and various other shenanigans.

Whilst it's a pity that we need a set of rules at all, I think that the rules or guidelines as set out by Ejls are as good as we're going to get, and therefore I endorse them completely.
