It is a way of keeping score on your age, if we dismiss birthdays then we will have to cut people in two and count the rings.

I guess if you forget when Tsar Alexander passed his Ukase then you will lose a few points on your exam paper, forgetting your mom's birthday can earn you enough demerits that you will spend the next year sharing a culvert with a tramp and a mongoose. Remember the power of a mom.

Still that makes for two reminders. I called up my gf on her bday to explain why birthdays should not be celebrated. Even gave my example. It just didn't work. And the capitalists are worsening it. Seriously, I try not to make a big deal of mine. I would be disappointed if my boys forgot, but it's at least a day for a little self indulgence if nobody remembers - or a time to show your loved ones that you appreciate them if it's the other way around. Birth is a dangerous process - you arrived safely and hopefully your mother survived the experience too. In times past, that wasn't guaranteed. If and when you have your own children you will understand.

 

Guys celebrate their birthdays as a way to show that we just spent another year trying to get back into what we originally came out of at birth, lol. :excited:
