And to explain that let me say the folks that both HUNT and FISH kind of amaze me. Those are just two different worlds to me and while I'll HUNT with the best of them, that FISHING thing just defeats me and pisses me off. Those FISHERMEN deal with complexities and subtitles, evolutionary learning, seasons, months, days, hours, and minutes, and not splitting hairs, but actually trimming them off a lure making all the difference in the world as far as catching fish. And the only common element if you're a FISHERMAN you can set the hook (another element that has escaped me for more than 50 years) like a HUNTER pulling the trigger.

So fishing to me amounts to Brookie streams and ICE FISHING with my son in law (who actually is a HUNTER AND FISHERMAN). But you can bet I cherish those days and nights.

 

I fish Small an Largemouth Bass in the summer. Winter im down in florida fishing them reds,tarpon an snook!

I promised my gramps we'd go to Alaska to fish and dig Geoduck, but he passed away before we could, so it's on my bucket list.
Never harpooned a fish but uhm....we may have used nets and M80's once, as kids:excited::excited::excited:

 

We were "snagging" fish one time and fish and wildlife came by and looked in the cooler and saw the hook holes in the fish and when he asked who caught them, we didn't answer and the fucker put the cooler in his trunk and as he drove away he looked at us and said "oh well, I know what I'm having for dinner tonight" as he sped off.

 

I've had a couple of run ins with fish & game Sometimes I "forget" about seasons.
They seem to be fairly tolerant most of the time, though. I went fishing once and caught three, which I had laid out on the bank, next to me. Mr. Barnes ( yes, I know his name and he knows mine quite well) pulled up and asked me what I was fishing for. I looked, down, looked up and replied :'' Duck."
He told me to pick up my ducks and get the hell out of there....

 

I used to go out on my grandpa's boat when he lived in Delaware and we used to catch lots and lots of crabs I miss those days.

 

I've never had crabs ... I've eaten them though, lol.

I think I would love to live on the east coast where you can trap your own crab and lobster every day if you want. I was shocked at the prices of that stuff on the east coast restaurants with it being so readily available there ... it's cheaper here where we are land locked.

 

I hear you, they know us too and I always have/had my tags in order when we went hunting because of learning the hard way. Do you know that you aren't allowed to keep any game that you smack with your truck ??? Most of it's not worth having anyway but the odd time when you just "clip a wing" so to speak, they are usable.

No, we can't keep the Dolly's, they are protected, but we catch them by accident. I think the most fun I had is when I was gutting our catch one day, and a small one swam out and grabbed the guts right after they hit the water. Eventually he was so full he hid by the cliff and you could see them hanging out of his mouth. I got a picture of it somewhere but damned if I can find it, all I can find is a picture of where we were.

I've never actually been to Alaska, but if it's anything like the territories, your grandfather would have loved it.

And BAD JPT! BAD BAD BAD! No snagging. *is disappointed* You shouldn't need to do that. I can't complain too much though, I've done the same thing when going hunting, we got a bad habit of not bringing enough food...eventually we'll get hungry enough to quit admiring the scenery and shoot something.

I was young and stupid ... I obviously aged but wonder if I ever wised up, lol.

Damn things were so well fed that they wouldn't bite though and I swear they were mocking us.

All this fishing talk reminds me of the J Geils song "Monkey Island" with the lyrics:

Lol, Like I said, I can't get too upset about something I've done...Might spank you for almost getting caught though. But, I don't know if Lioness wants her chewy pre-tenderized.

She has chewed me a new one more than a few times so it's plenty tough and can handle a spanking or two without to much worry.

I couldn't see getting away with that in today's environment and they would just fine the whole lot of us ... not like the "olden days".

Went fishing today - large mouth, rock bass, blue gills, perch - catch and release, but it was a great time.

 

How do you fish for those? What kind of hooks, and manner of fishing? If you don't mind explaining...everyone tells me that's what lives in the lakes around where I live, and I plan on trying my hand. Never even seen one, so I should have fun
