I had a friend that use to have such attacks often. Granted I've never had one myself, however when she had them they left her close to the point of convulsions.

Panic attacks are nothing to take lightly. My adult son has them, sometimes they get pretty bad. He's had to go to emergency before because of them. The doctors have him on Zanax.

 

I agree and the after effect of panic attacks is something close to running a marathon at full speed. Which leave the one that suffers from it drained and even more depressed.

This is a condition I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy.

 

Kinda wish mine were more obvious like that, actually. When I have a panic attack I just get really stiff and terrified, and go to places that are small and have no people. oh and the breathing thing, if it's really bad. I think my family disbelieves me, since it's not as obvious as some other people's attacks.


my uncle used to get them, but he stopped smoking pot, and they went away.

 

Just out of curiosity, but when you feel an attack coming on do you try to use some form of relaxation technique to take the edge off of it? (example slower deep breathing, positive reassurance)

 

nope. the breathing thing doesn't work. usually i masturbate, since you can't think when you masturbate. I don't think it's actually healthy to do, since I now associate anxiety with orgasms.

I have some tranquilizer medication somewhere, but I never really take it since the web says it's very addictive. an usually when I have a panic attack I have to go somewhere, where I can't be hopped up on tranqs.

I've had one. I had times when I was very nervous and stressed before, but it was nothing like this episode. I truly thought I might be having a heart attack, stroke or some kind of weird seizure. I had a feeling of pressure in my chest and my hands, the back of my head and my face were all numb. I pulled my car over into a parking lot and called 911. The EMT's did a quick EKG and looked for signs of a stroke. My EKG didn't show it was a heartn attack, but it wasn't totally normal either. After the hospital ruled out everything else, the doctor said it was a "classic panic attack". Now if I start to experience some of the same symptoms, I just do some deep breathing and tell myself to calm down.

 

I had panic attacks..they are no fun...especially when youre alone and far from home... i still get them but i manage to control it pretty well..had them since 04

i have them...ask your doctor for clonazapam. its the same as xanax but non addictive!!!!!!

 

My eldest son used to get them, and it took a long time to diagnose - at one point we took him for a heart scan. He ended up going to a child psychiatrist who helped sort him out. It was all triggered by Marijuana, and he knows not to touch it now.

My son who gets severe panic attacks never smokes weed though. He's a jesus freak. I don't know WHERE we went wrong....

 

Never had one and never will, probably, but then I have nothing to panic over.

 

Yes, I have panic attacks a lot, if I am in new situations or in a big crowd. Sometimes I just get WAY too overwhelmed and that leads to a panic attack. Look around online for some solutions that may help you and definitely talk to a Dr!
