This is almost a rerun of another thread on nice guys (in June I think). Anyway, as I said there in a slightly different context, one has to show that they're assertive confident and can protect the woman. There are no replacements for these qualities.

As for being nice, that'd get you girls and boys, as friends. Perhaps the type who'll cqll you up at 3 and cry till 6 when you've got a meeting at 9. Or who'll howl about their lovers and say how much better you are, but "somehow" never have the time for you when you need it. I faced it once, the next time she wanted "advice" I simply walked off while she was on mid sentence. I still remember the stunned look. Somewhere it hurt too, but I wouldn't let myself be used and when subtle indications didn't work I had to put it across this way. She's found another nice guy now, but her drunkard lover remains the same.

 

Oh and about that line about " hearing from mostly ladies". When I was in the dumps and couldnt get a date for nothing I was taking girls advice. A friend of my brother ( that had to beat ladies off with a stick) told me once, " never take advice on women from a woman" and now I find its true, for the most part anyway. He pretty much told me what most have said here, confidence is key, when you go talk to a girl, let her know your interested, but that if she shoots you down for whatever reason it won't break you, the worse thing can do is obsess over a girl, 90 percent of the time it's not gonna make her like you more.
