You really rode plumb off the reservation on this one. Asking the moderators why a member was banned is not asking for every detail. That's just dumb.

Yes there will be problems because the rules are applied in an arbitrary and capricious manner with discrimination and favoritism.

And just like in Shyguy2's case someone started a thread to discuss underage girls and boys. But the OP was not banned. And at first at least Shyguy2 was the only banned on the thread. However, once it was pointed out other members also solicited minors they were banned retroactively.

That also would do nothing about wanting to know why someone was banned.

OK that sounds like a good plan to me. And you'd be shocked to see how little it would change. About the only thing you might notice is a sticky thread entitled Recently Banned Members where the members who were banned and the reason for it would be posted.

Which would be a hell of a lot easier and less work than the constant stream of Why Was So and So banned threads.

As a moderator it would not be my job to shut assholes up. In fact since assholes are people too that would be censorship and discrimination.

However, if a member is making death threats aganist another member the member making the death threats would be banned with an explanation on the recently banned thread.

As I recall Chunky and Piggit did explain why someone was banned. But at least when they banned someone they were as far as humanly possible being fair, objective, and consistent.
