Black Ronin - have you given any thought yet to how the voting phase of CAW 13 will go? Will it be just best one wins (most votes) or as in CAW 12?

Yeah mine isn't going to have any demons or ghost in it, just a sick and twisted man that is causing trouble but who is he. I just hope what I have in my head comes out on paper, so far not too bad. Well too me its not too bad.

I have a silly question:
Is is alright to incorporate two of the paintings into my story? The inspiration for this story literally just sang itself to me, and now I need another painting to make it fit properly. I hope this is alright?

 

As far as I read you can use any of the paintings that were posted at the beginning of this thread. I am using one or two others in mine but only as a reference though.

 

"WSF!" I call out, "WSF! are you ok back there? I heard a loaud noise." I don't get a responce so I begin to look around the house. The lights go out all of a sudden and I continue my search.

I hear a door creaking loudly, and I go to investigate. Maybe I should check behind the door or go out side and look in the old creepy wood shed.

 

Whatever you do, DO NOT look in the shed!

What is the ruling this time on vignettes?

Deriving from previous work tends to be frowned upon in these competitions, even though derivations involve nearly as much work as writing from scratch (though work of a different timbre). I would like to take part, but I am neck deep in writing/proofing/editing big novels these days, so vignettes are all I have time for. (And let's face it, I'm not trying to sneak a win out of this; I don't think I've ever gotten more than three votes!)

And my books are so obscure/long that the entry would be new to just about everyone.

So what's the deal? Can I "derive" a nightmare, or do I need to supply a new one?

 

Well, at least I've settled on a title: "The Sketch."

I'm not using the painting per se, but writing about a pencil drawing that looks like it may have been a preliminary study by Fuselli for his disturbing paintings.

The sketch has a scrawled message on the back: "Protege hoc, aut pati. Vos excipiam mortem." Loosely translated from the Latin, that means, "Protect this, or suffer. You will welcome death."

I'm only half joking about that. "Pollyanna meets the boogie man" would actually describe my story surprisingly well.

By the way, it's spelled "bogeyman". Unless you're implying that he likes to dance.:excited:

 

It's not chocolate syrup. Far from it.

Be very careful. The wood shed sometimes likes people to believe they've escaped. I would suggest you sleep with the lights on from here on in.

 

Sounds like there may have been more going on with the sketch than just a dire warning. Interesting bit of history though; guess I need to start doing more research for future CAW entries.

The name for mine is "The Grotto of Dreams."

I'm not even going to ask; though I now have a good idea where my zombie chicken collection disappeared to...are you sure Dizzy that it was chocolate syrup you found?

 

TCO - as far as I am aware of it should not be a problem; if anything PM Black Ronin directly and ask; better to double check to be sure.

I've finished the initial editing for my entry; and figure I have two more to go - hopefully I can iron all the bugs out in time.
