I had no idea who this oldman was until, he started popping up all over the news, so i cant really give me opinion cuz im unsure on what happen.

 

Let's not forget that he still has that freedom of speach. he can continue to say what he likes about whoever he chooses.

Just as all Americans do within the bounds of your constituation.

Imus, if he loses his show, has just been put on the same footing as a bigot on the street with a right to free speach, rather than being a bigot on the radio with a right to free speach.

And honestly, I bet his ratings have gone through the roof this week and his sponsors (in private at least) are cock-a-hoop at the increased exposure.

 

They pulled his show and he's not on-he was on a 2 week suspension to begin with....Now NBC let him go.......His sponsors were all pulling out, they don't want that type of exposure...He lost some really big ones.....We all know money talks!!!

 

Whether or not he should be fired seems to now be a moot point since I have just read that CBS has indeed fired him. So seems to me that Imus no longer has a leg to stand on apologies or not. Granted yes he does have the right to free speach, but lets face a cold hard fact we live in that land of the easily offended, and political correctness sits on high. Imus was not the first to open their mouth and insert their foot, and he surely will not be the last.

 

I didn't realize that CBS had fired him too......Oh well, now maybe we can hear about something else.....The news often beats a dead horse to death.
There are also consequences to what we say and do!!! That politically correct stuff grinds my gears, big time........All I can say is Merry Christmas everybody!!!

i dont think he should be fired, and 2 weeks was a lil too much,,,, but what he did do was very wrong and unexcusable yet he does have the right to say w/e he thinks.,,, and also i think ppl shouldnt think soo horribly of this even though it is real bad, but what if a black dude called a group of white ppl crackers or honkey etc.... nobody would of thought anything of it...

Yup! Now that Imus is cooked, maybe Sharpton and Jesse will travel south and chastise the young black woman who nearly cost three young white men their freedoms, education and good names.

Sharpton and Jackson, along with their accompanying media circus (collectively called Hypocrits 'R Us) should apologize for this treacherous woman, apologize to the poor players on behalf of all black people and to the Lacross fans for her behavior and condone it strongly.

Has anyone heard yet when Hypocrits 'R Us are due to arrive on the Duke campus? How can the media put Imus above this Duke-lacross saga? The consequences where much greater for these young men than the that of the young, inteligent women of the rutgers basketball team.

 

Bladeway, I don't know exactly what happened between that black women and those three lacrosse players, but I'd be willing to make you a small wager that if the truth were ever known, those kids were engaged in behavior that their parents would not be proud of. They are NOT paragons of virtue, despite their earnest efforts to play the part.

No, Imus does not deserve to be fired until it goes all the way around. If I hear one more rapper say that it's perfectly ok to rap about white people in a derrogatory manner because of colonial oppression I'm going to throw up!!!! Last time I asked, no one in my family or anybody's family that I know owned a slave so why the fuck do they think they still feel colonial oppression????? Why can the black panthers rally against the Duke lacross players without appology? Why can Jessie Jackson call NYC hymie town and then be encouraged to run for president?? Why can Ray Negan call New Orleans chocolate town and basicaly say white people shouldn't be allowed back without an appology?? Why can Kanye West say the president hates black people without an appology? I'm positive that if someone said Al Sharpton hates white people on live TV they would be crucified!!!!! Last time I checked, teens and kids did not listen to Imus in the morning, but millions buy rap CD's which not all but a huge majority make derrogatory comments towards white people. Maybe I should put out a CD rapping about the black guy that stole my car or mugged my mom.

 

College students misbehave. However, the vast majority don't face 10 years behind bars for it. The outragous lies of the accuser (They raped me!!), the over-eager prosecutor(the dna evidence will prove it!), and a weak-kneed university (these evil kids are kicked-out!) cost these three scholar-athletes their good names, an education for longer than can be understood, and thousands in defense dollars. And Imus is evil?????????? These kids committed no crime!

The media is missing the boat. 60 Minutes and Nightline should be killing themselves to get this black-woman-accuser on the air, with Sharpton and Jackson on the set to explain why she isn't going to prison for filing her crime report.

 

I completely agree. Not to mention the backlash. Now every time a girl cries rape there's going to be even MORE people doubting her story.

It's hard enough to prove a rape (especially against a star athelete or child of "respected members of the community". Although these men were innocent there are plenty who aren't. And from now on, when the issue comes up, it's gonna be "remember thos lacrosse players?" (especially if it's a black girl against a white guy)

I think this issue is particularly close to me because I recently had a close friend accused of a rape that he did not commit. She got drunk (but not drunk enough she couldn't say no) and had sex with him. She spent the night in bed with him. She got up in the morning and had breakfast with him at his place (with his roomies) and after talking to some friends decided she'd been raped. Luckily the cops dropped it. Knowing this particular person I KNOW there's no way he'd even have sex with a woman who was too drunk to know better...he's a bit paranoid. We live in a town where people cry rape all the time so we've all heard the horror stories. A lot of the cases have validity but a lot of them turn out to be self-confessed morning after regrets. So most of the responsible men in town are VERY careful about what situations they get into. I don't understand why people do things like this. And I too think that girl should be brought up on defamation charges at the very least.

 

The fact that the prosecutor is an idiot and couldn't prove his case does not mean that a crime wasn't committed. I'm not saying those kids should go to jail, but neither am I willing to put them on a pedestal.

Imus deserved what he got. It doesn't cut it, at least with me, to say that you can't fire him because you haven't yet managed to eradicate all of the racism in the world.

 

I agree with what was stated earlier. I mean, honestly. Change the station!!! Everyone has said something deragotory before, so why make a big deal about someone else saying it? It's more or less, a reason for the gossip lovers to gossip and actually have something more to do than live with themselves in their pathetic lives.

 

I'll go back to what I said earlier. Anybody who works for me and says such a thing in public needs to be sacked. And he said it to MILLIONS of people. I find it hard to believe that anyone would condone such behavior in an employee.

But if they didn't sack him because he offended a huge number of people, they can still sack him because sponsors were pulling the plug. Money talks.

 

Both sets are bad for business, but you have to think. What's going to bring you more money? Shock jockey that makes those kinds of comments, or some boring politically correct person spouting off everyday things? Personally, I'd rather listen to Imus make mean comments than a polite guy saying the same things we hear on the 6 o' clock news.

And as for firing him, it was bound to happen. But the bad thing was that he got fired for practicing free speech. That's the FIRST amendment. You have to wonder, did the comment and the sponsors leaving have anything to do with each other? I mean did they pull the sponsor and set Imus in a foul mood where he'd make those kinds of comments, or did the wait to pull it after the comment? (I never caught that part of the news)
