I wanted a second Franklin Roosevelt. Instead we got our first affirmative action president. :(

Barack Obama is a slow learner from the special education class, but he is learning, and unemployment is gradually declining.

What cracks me up is all the conservative/Republican/Tea Baggers demanding President Obama release his college transcripts, which no candidate for president has done, while giving Romney a free pass on not releasing his tax returns, which all modern presidents have done.

And here's one of the reasons Romney's won't release their tax returns.

How Delphi Automotive beat the odds in vast corporate turnaround

    CEO of Delphi

    Rodney O'Neal
Delphi Automotive may be based in suburban Detroit, but to understand the company's turnaround, consider it a company without borders.

For tax purposes, Delphi is incorporated in the United Kingdom. The company's once-vast network of U.S. factories is nearly gone, replaced by a growing network of plants in China, Mexico and eastern Europe.

And Delphi continues to wean itself from its former corporate parent, General Motors. Last year GM accounted for 19 percent of Delphi's revenues, down from 53 percent when Delphi sought Chapter 11 reorganization in 2005.

Now that Delphi has established profitable niches in some of the auto industry's fastest-growing sectors -- collision avoidance, fuel economy and infotainment -- Wall Street considers it an attractive investment.

Since it went public last November, Delphi's stock price has risen about 28 percent.

In many ways, Delphi tells the story of how America's suppliers can thrive after the recession: go global, ruthlessly jettison unprofitable businesses and focus tightly on promising niches.

The company's painful four-year bankruptcy allowed CEO Rodney O'Neal to carry out the makeover that began when GM spun off its component operation in 1999.

"It's a totally transformed company," said O'Neal during a June 29 interview with Automotive News.
"We have the right products, the right customers and the right management."

To make sense of Delphi's painful transformation, it helps to understand the company's tangled relationship with GM.
After he was named GM's vice president of worldwide purchasing in 2001, Bo Andersson set up an unfurnished room in his suburban Detroit headquarters in which he could track GM's numerous contracts with the newly independent Delphi.

All four walls of the room were covered with taped-up paper documents that summarized GM's purchasing contracts with unionized suppliers.
Many of those contracts were with Delphi, which paid its workers as much as $65 an hour in wages and benefits -- significantly more than the industry average of $25 or so.

From time to time Andersson ushered visitors into that room. His message was clear: General Motors was acutely aware of the labor costs of its former in-house parts operation.

At the time, Delphi CEO J.T. Battenberg III had a plan to do something about that. The company was producing more parts in low-cost countries such as Mexico and China. And it was attracting new customers such as Ford Motor Co., which was willing to do business with Delphi after it became independent.

Delphi also was entering new product sectors such as diesel fuel injectors, which it added to its portfolio with the $871 million acquisition of Lucas Diesel Systems.

But there was one big problem: Delphi wasn't able to negotiate major wage cuts for its U.S. plants with the UAW, according to Donald Runkle, Delphi's former vice chairman who retired from the company in 2005.
"Everything was working except [the loss] of GM business," Runkle said.

"There was no way you could get your productivity high enough [to compensate for high wages]. At the end of the day, we couldn't handle it."
By the time Battenberg retired in 2005, Delphi's sales to GM had declined to 50 percent of total sales.

But it wasn't enough. GM was shifting contracts to other customers faster than Delphi could find new business. In 2005, turnaround artist Steve Miller took Delphi into Chapter 11 reorganization just three months after he replaced Battenberg as CEO.

When Delphi emerged from bankruptcy in 2009, it had one big advantage over its rivals: lower manufacturing costs. In bankruptcy court, all but five U.S. plants were sold, closed or returned to GM.

You bet they are profitable after receiving nearly $12 Billion in tax payer bailouts just so they could ship those jobs to foreign countries while sticking us taxpayers with the pensions they bailed on.

No its a prime example of an ad hominem fallacy and out and out lies.

But if its any consolation I did go elk hunting again and we got a huge six point bull this time. A real trophy. Which cost exactly one half tank of gasoline to get to the mountain and back.:)

So even after seeing the long form birth certificate, Trump doesn't believe that Obama was born in the U.S. If Obama turned over all his college and passport records and it didn't reveal anything nefarious, TRUMP WOULDN'T BE SATISFIED. Furthermore, any of the other birthers out there aren't out there aren't going to be satisfied either and they aren't going to vote for Obama REGARDLESS.

They did not receive 12 billion and you can not find a reliable source that says they did...

The fucking unions forced then into to bankruptcy because of 65 bucks a hour wages when the normal wage was 25 buck...

it was in 2005 ....show some real proof of your hedge fund...

After bankruptcy that went public in 2009 there stock has gone from 3 bucks to 30 by being a UK company and not an American company..

BTW...US corporations to day announced over 50,000 in coming lay offs...

And actually this is a little different than just the failed birther bullshit. They want the transcripts to supposedly prove that President Obama benefited from affirmative action. But what the passport application has to do with anything I have no idea.

But what I do know is almost everyone is laughing at Donald Trump today and he ain't liking it one bit.:excited:

They said the wages were UP TO $65 an hour and an average of $25 an hour. The $65 an hour was probably going to engineers and added up to $140K without overtime - not a crazy high salary for an experienced engineer. An average wage of $25 an hour comes out to a little over $50K a year, which is not crazy high for a skilled worker in manufacturing. The CEO got more than $5 Million. How much of a pay cut did he take?

I guess I missed the announcement that "The Donald" was named as spokesperson for the "every man". Or maybe that HE is owed any and all explanations.

    After all, he's "The Donald".

Trump is a blowhard, no question, and he most likely has nothing.

But then again, all this "birther" invective from the left is piss-poor deflection.

Most of the people who want his college transcripts do not care where he was born. They want the transcripts to determine how he snaked his way into Columbia and Harvard. They want to know if he cheated Affirmative Action by claiming to be from Indonesia when he matriculated at Occidental.

They are not racist for asking those questions. David Axelrod has marketed the man as an intellectual. He was won the presidency on that brand. By selling the cock-and-bull story that he has a brain without his teleprompter, Obama himself has put the issue on the table.

And if he were Republican, the press would have been at least curious.

Look at it this way: The Boston Globe, which is insolvent and is slated to be dumped by the New York Times, assigned journalists to help Gloria Allred petition a court in Canton Massachusetts for twenty year old divorce records, in a failed attempt to smear Romney. Not Romney's divorce records! The sealed divorce records of a friend. On a whiff of nothing, for nothing more than a smear, the Globe devoted several staff, over several days, to go back twenty years, just for a smear that failed.

But Obama's matriculation at Ivy? Possibly defrauding the affirmative action system? Possibly lying on his applications and listing himself as an Indonesian citizen? Nope. Not the least bit interested in how that inarticulate, cognitively vacant MORON cheated his way into Harvard. No story there.

Ahh, well. Trump's a blowhard, and possibly he is even more narcissistic than Barack Hussein Obama, which sure is saying something. Yet, for all of that, he is no fool. Rumor has it that he does have the smoking gun, but has been told by the Romney campaign not to rock the boat and stir up shit while Romney's tide is rising. Possibly he can't give up his source. Who knows? As I said, Trump is no fool, and he doesn't deal half-cocked.

For my money, Obama cheated his way into college by listing himself as Indonesian.

Holy Twisted Fuck Wads of Nonsense, clarise!! Did you have a ghostwriter type this sentence out for you?!?? Trump is the epitome of foolish and one of the world's pre-eminent bluffers . . . I'd say the man is lucky if he ever got to half-cocked, let alone fully so. Moderately wealthy charlatans like Trump get way too much attention.
