Actually that is quite possibly a good comparison.

When customers tastes change, they very well may shop elsewhere, the place that best meets their current taste will likely get the business. However, when a political party has core beliefs that run contrary to the voter, what has changed?

Should the person running for office give the voter all the words that they want to here and then do whatever he chooses after the election. Or should the candidate stick with his/her convictions and not lie to the voter?

Bear in mind, one of Romney's biggest faults was the uncertain way he stood on many issues.

But what does it say for the Obama camp, my signature might be very applicable.

The demographics and actual voters is what changed. Which was why the conservative/Republican/Tea Party strategy of demonizing blacks, immigrants, and women failed miserably. The GOP used to be able to win elections with those strategies alone but now the population is too diverse and voters too well informed to keep falling for the lie of conservatism as it is preached and practiced in this nation.

You can look at both Mitt Romney and Barack Obama for the answer to this question because that's exactly what Mitt Romney did. He tried to tell each group of voters exactly what they wanted to hear even though that meant he had to contradict himself on nearly a daily basis. And in case you didn't notice the die hard "conservatives" gave him a free pass on that even when during the debates Romney was suddenly more liberal than President Obama.

Meanwhile President Obama and the Democrats did stick to their core values on everything from raising taxes on the wealthy to Obamacare which they gladly owned and got elected on. And those Democrats who did campaign on those liberal convictions won in almost every instance.

There was nothing "uncertain" about Romney/Ryan's campaign because it was just one big con game where they ran from their own positions and values and tried to tell each group they talked to what they wanted to hear hoping they would be fools enough to believe them again. And the only thing consistent about their campaign was their attempts to demonize the other demographics hoping that there was still enough in the white electorate to get them elected which was really really terrible math.

No your signature is only applicable to the Romney/Ryan camp. President Obama and the Democrats have been consistent about they wanted to do if they were elected. They campaigned on the liberal/progressive/Democratic values and won on them.

 

I did find it rather sickening how days before the election Ryan played the religion card on Obama, once again reinforcing the wink and nod tactic of playing the Obama is a Muslim card.

 

That was only one card in their deck of dirty tricks trying to paint President Obama as anything but what he really is. And nothing has really changed.

I just don't like the way it continually perpetuates a totally false claim. I heard some crap about him being registered as a Muslim when he was a kid in Indonesia is proof of this. I too was considered a Muslim when I went to school because my father is and he did not want me eating anything at the school that wasn't in line with what he would feed me at home, yet I have not one day in my life ever converted to Islam myself nor have I or even know how to pray in Islam. What a transcript that your parents signed when you were a kid says does not, as some people seem to believe, make you a Muslim, Hama loving anti American whose soul purpose during his time in office is to make this country as broken as possible. Some people just can't get that through their head because I believe honestly that they are racist, but being as your commiting image suicide by calling him out on his race, they're instead going after the religion that is accepted as being free to hate in this country.

 

We've got at least one member claiming there's a Muslim Sleeper Cell in the White House because President Obama met with members of the Council on American-Islamic Relations at the White House and using already debunked claims of them being a terrorist organization to back up their outrageous claims.

But again that is only one way the conservative/Republican/Tea Party try to demonize President Obama and paint him as some "other." And you can see many of the other attempts in the thread I linked.

 

That's what I mean, that 'other' statement is the perfect word for it. That he's the outsider, the one who isn't one of us. Who the fuck is 'us' anyways?

I'm not even sure that I'd go that far. He ran on a centrist platform of balanced deficit reduction, a conservative health care plan and moderate foreign policy (with which Mittens largely agreed in substance if not in tone). The only reason that these positions appear somewhat "progressive" is because the Republicans keep moving further and further rightward.

 

Us are 330 million people from every nation, religion, ethnic group and race in the entire world. And with the exception of Native Americans we are all immigrants at one time or another.

And "them" are those who can't accept that the demographics have changed and that the White Angelo-Saxon Protestants are no longer the absolute dominate class. Especially when even WASPS like me totally supported President Obama over the lying flip-flopping phony Mitt Romney.

I'm just simply going to stand corrected on this point and admit you are right and I was wrong. Its a point I should have remembered and simply did not.

 

The core belief of the Republican Party is that the rich should have more money and power. During a time of broadly based economic growth, when most people are advancing economically, the GOP can run on that core belief because many who are not rich think they will become that way.

During a time when the median income adjusted for inflation has been declining for awhile, but the rich keep getting richer candidly expressing that core belief loses elections. Even the suspicion by most voters that the Republican Party stands for that is a problem.

An economy in which the rich get richer, but most people decline is toxic to the Republican Party.

When white blue collar workers keep getting rent increases and pay cuts it might be possible for demagogues like Rush Limbaugh to direct their anger at one or more right wing hate targets. It is much more difficult to get non whites and college educated whites to think that way.

 

Their is absolutely no freedom any where in the world. Why do you think people are going up against governments all over the world.
