I hate to come in late in a thread. It makes me feel like I am talking out of my ass and dont know whats going on.

Fortunately, I Have never been terribly shy about talking out of my ass while not having a clue whats going on...so here goes

The average American...that kinda rules most of us out, is neither conservative or liberal. And that average American does not feel adequately represented by either party. The average American voted for Mitt Romney or Barack Obama because that seemed to be the thing to do at the time. They found their choice to be the least objectionable of the two available candidates but in the end they really dont have any real faith in either of them. Some folks do...sure, they do the "man of the street interviews" to try to get an idea of the overall mood of the voters and they spam the TV with all these nice people crawling out of the voting booth who happily explain why their choice was the man who will save America. But much like similar man on the street interviews that display the absolute abject stupidity of the Average person, they had to sift through a lot of people to find the few that had any strong opinion.

The simple fact is that while the left and the right sling mud and call names and bitterly dispute the course of the country, and the handful of people who actually buy into that crap cheer from the sidelines, most American know in their heart of hearts that they are all wrong.

 

The US has been pumping foreign aid into Egypt for since 1922 you parrot.

Thanks for first admitting that you talk out of your ass about subjects that you know nothing about.

The US certainly does seem to be polarized, perhaps you have underestimated the average American. Average denotes the calculation of a group of numbers when totaled and the sum then is divided by two. It certainly does not apply to a huge number of individuals who are individually considering a huge number of variables.

People tend to follow the group that best fits their ideology(s), religious beliefs; societal beliefs; local political environment; personal experience all play a part in determining how they will respond to any candidate or party.

In our state, the Republican Party has been in control for the last decade, we did not suffer the huge downturn in housing, employment and business climate that many other states experienced. Thus it should be no surprise that the state went Republican two weeks ago.

Other states have had horrible economic conditions, losses in jobs and entire industries, they seemed to go Democrat last time.

This again from a guy who claims American voters were too stupid to understand the issues of the past election and voted for race, and gifts from President Obama.

Again this is coming from someone who on anther thread claimed the reason President Obama won was because of race and "gifts."

PS President Obama only received 39% of the "white vote." But that those figures are skewed because President Obama only received 10% in the southern states.

They vote for what best fits them...sure. But often there is a large gap between what best fits and what they really believe in their heart of hearts. I drive a Hyundai but I would much rather drive a Mercedes.

Many call it "the lesser of two evils." By voting for the lesser of two evils you insure that there will be damage done...but less damage than the alternative. And that, unfortunately is how most people truly feel. They voted for Obama not as much because they really think he is awesome, but because the alternative was more outside their belief system than the one they chose.

I, for example tend to lean very conservative on many issues. Drugs, guns, crime just to name a few. But on other issues I lean center or even liberal. Like social programs, labor relations, marriage, etc. Then there are other thing on which I lean completely outside either political ideology. And that is how the largest percentage of voters feel most of the time. They hold their noses and vote for the candidate that pisses them off the least. In this case...I didn't bother voting. It would have been a waste of my time to chose between two candidates that I couldn't stand. And those feelings are shared by the largest number of voters, or people eligible to vote who dont bother to even register simply because neither of the two parties are seen as representative of their beliefs.

 

Then you really don't have a dog in the hunt.

Voters can register their displeasure by voting for a third, four or fifth party candidate, or writing in a candidate. Otherwise you actually voted by default for a candidate that you cannot stand. You call it protest, I call it lazy. People who do not take the time to register their choices have no right bitching about the result.

 

The one thing I would disagree with about your statement is that a majority of Americans didn't vote in this election because they didn't like either candidate.

And the reason I disagree is because that's not just true this past election. That's actually true for every election. In fact there are always enough people in the US that could have but didn't vote to elect someone entirely different than who won.

PS And the reason for that is not politics. Its apathy and laziness.
