So who voted for the the strike? They knew the company was struggling and tried to get what they could before it finally collapsed. I guess they did not see the firm shutting up shop rather than pay the uninion members.

And yes I do believe that "hogwash". The union presented the members with their plan and they voted on it, or did the officials fix the ballot. They voted to strike and set up picket lines, the company just shut the doors.

How long will it be before the recievers sell the licence to make "Twinkies" to the PRC or the ROC, so don't worry they will soon be back on the shelves, with the added benefit of being made in China by workers who will not strike and get payed a whole lot less than the Americans who lost their jobs.

 

The Bakers Union voted to remain on strike. Hostess has a history of trying to screw it's unions. Also it's a very poorly run company.

Well, not all of them voted to strike. 5,000 Union Members supposedly did and cost 18,500 people their jobs by demanding what they knew the company could not afford.

How would you feel if you were one of the 13,500 that had no say in this?

As to the poorly run part. I remember when they changed the ingredients in the cream filling in cupcakes, Suzie-Q's, twinkies and ho-ho's. Stuff tasted terrible. I stopped buying their products. About 6 months later they realized they made a HUGE mistake and changed it back.

Hey take a look at these shenanigans it's not just he unions. Why not ask the executives who gave themselves massive pay raises just before the bankruptcy filing....Here's an excerpt from the article linked to below....

"BCTGM members are well aware that as the company was preparing to file for bankruptcy earlier this year, the then CEO of Hostess was awarded a 300 percent raise (from approximately $750,000 to $2,550,000) and at least nine other top executives of the company received massive pay raises. One such executive received a pay increase from $500,000 to $900,000 and another received one taking his salary from $375,000 to $656,256."

Did they stay at home or cross the picket line, though I support peoples right to strike I also feel that if you want to work then you should not be harassed by those that don't.

The strikers followed what the Union recommended and voted themselves out of work, sadly they took with them the workers who were not union members, so the 13,000 + know who to blame.

Sadly your unions seem to work for the organisers benefit and not the workers, over here it is different.

I see no-one wants to answer my comment that the Twinkies licence will be sold to the Taiwan or China, so your Twinkies will be back soon, just made by folk getting paid much lower than what the American worker demanded.

The bankruptcy judge has the last say. He/She could deny the chapter 7 then tell them to work it out NOW. They'd have no choice.

 

It might be a problem, since they were fresh baked goods, with a very short shelf life. There were over a hundred bakeries in the US making their products.
