I have just been given some very bad news this morning. A local restaurant/brewery that has been a staple of this town for almost as long as this town has been in existence is closing it's doors at the end of the week. My heart is breaking over this news because it wasn't until a few years ago that I was first able to dine there. I can count on one hand the number of times I have been lucky enough to eat at this wonderful establishment. I am close to tears over this news. One by one all of this town's beloved restaurants and shops are closing down. I hate it. People around here obviously care not about historical value. Bastards.

The bf and I will be dining there tonight for the final time. *sobs*

People nowadays seem to have no respect for anything of historical significance. It's sad how ignorant society has become.

Turns out that the reason why it's closing is because it hasn't payed any federal payroll taxes and has owed the city money since 2004. That really breaks my heart. I hope someone else buys the brewery and does things the right way, because I hate to see it shut down for good. Also, it turns out that the brewery has only been in business for 14 years apparently. The building it's in, however, is what has been around since nearly the beginning. I hate it when I'm misinformed about things. Makes me so sad.

 

So another victim of a faceless corporation trying to make a fast buck out of a local institution, sickening. Hope a community minded person takes initiative to revive it

 

Hi Michaela. I hope that you had a good meal there before they closed. It is so freezing cold here. I wish that I had someone warm to cuddle with.

 

Surprisingly it's not a corporation...it was owned by two local guys, both bailing town. One of the owners also owns a restaurant down in my hometown 30 miles south of here. Wouldn't surprise me if he's been flaking on the taxes there as well. Greedy bastards.

I won't get to eat there. Ol' dood said that his money is not going toward those greedy people. I can't fault him for that bc I've boycotted several establishments around here for similar horrendousness.

 

Sorry to hear about the brewery.

Had something similar happen up here to a gas station chain. The didn't pay taxes, and all his assets were sold off. Now the stations are owned by two other major chains. Of course the ones who really suffered were all the people who worked for this asshole.:wall:

Yep. I'm hoping some decent people step in and buy the place. It's a nice place to go eat, if one has the funds, of course.

I'm not trying to defend anything they did but sometimes its not greed that causes that sometimes its trying to just keep the dream alive. I know of two different situations where the people had to choose between killing their dream or staying open by not paying the taxes in both cases they lost their dream and they both are paying back the owed taxes but they never did it for the greed. Just offering a different look at it is all.

 

I know one of the owners. It's greed.

 

Convinced ol' dood to get me a $5 bear at Aldi today. I named him Bob lol.

Also, ol' dood is a bit derpy, as you can tell from the bear's tag lol

 

It's not the cost but the thought that counts. One of the best things that I did for my wife on Valentines day was- I saw an ad in the paper for a barbershop quartet. They sang 3 songs, gave her a single red rose and a small box of chocolate. I hired them and met them at her work when she went on lunch. I arranged this with her boss to make sure that it would be ok.

 

Oh, I don't care how much something costs. If I see something I like, I want it lol. He's the one to put up a fuss about it at first...I had to just stick it in the cart and refuse to put it back.

Send as many positive thoughts and vibes toward me and my family, if you will. My sister is in the ICU. She lives five hours away from me, so I can't just up and go see her. My parents were able to, but didn't even bother to call me and ask if I wanted to go with them. So now I have to wait until ol' dood wakes up to ask him to call into work the next couple of days to take me. If he refuses to do so, then I'll have to ask my bff that lives an hour away and hope to FSM that her father won't pitch a bitch fit at her absence for a couple of days. :-\
