  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    Who'da thunk it?

Al Gore has bailed out of CurrentTV after a few short years of stellar failure.

But never fear, stumbles and pals, other TV network has bought the floundering ship that is precariously listing to port.

Al-Jazeera has just bought the cable TV "News" show with the idea of expanding their small US exposure.

Time Warner Cable immediately announced that they're dropping the channel.

I haven't looked at it in a couple of monthes, but I too found it interesting. Of course I (and I assume you) was looking at the Westernized version of Al-Jazeera, it was about as controversial as the BBC.
In what context? It had very little impact in the US, while Fox has a huge impact. It was editorially left leaning, while Fox tends to yaw to starboard.

Otherwise, it was a vanilla milkshake trying to look like a classic martini.

Isn't it embarrassing to have rabid fundamentalists making such an impact on your country? I am centre-left myself but can totally understand why right wing and left wing politicians make the policies they make. At the end of the day they want to improve their country but they think a certain path is better than another.

However, from what I have seen of Fox News and the 'journalists' that report on that show would make me fearful if I was an American, but makes me laugh incredulously because I'm not. You're an intelligent right winger 10G, what do you think about those crazy bastards? :excited:

First thing to note is that I rarely watch the Fox News Channel, which is solely on cable/satellite TV here, so what I think of them is based on what I have gleaned from other sources.

Second thing to note is that I rarely watch other cable/sat news channels either, so same sources for my opinions.

Because of the enormous amount of fluff and fillers that dominate ALL TV news programming, I value my time too highly to waste it sifting through the drivel to get to the meat of any one subject.

What I do use to get my news is the internet's broad access to various news agencies and broadcast TV news when there is a specific event or set or events taking place. Local and other news I get from the local broadcast TV stations and the three newspapers that I subscribe to.

From what I have seen on the Fox News Channel is that the actual news stories are reported on in the same vein as all other such organizations. Where they differ is in the opinion and discussion programs which definitely cater to the right wing followers. This formula seems to be very effective, as they consistantly lead the others in viewership and the subsequent advertising dollars that come with the ratings.

The BBC does not court controversy but rather reports the news, much more satisfying that watching a bunch of talking heads making idiotic ideological statements and lying through whatever teeth they have.

Which is what I saw Al-Jazeera doing on their English website. That was my point.

As far as watching talking heads spew their biased opinions, there is no "news" channel in the US that is a haven from that.

"Tends to yaw to starboard"? My, but you have a talent for understatement.

Personally, I will hate to see Current TV go away, if only for Cenk Uygur and the Young Turks. He was one of the few people willing to call Obama out for unnecessarily giving away the store in the so-called "fiscal cliff" deal. I also enjoyed Jennifer Granholm and Elliot Spitzer from time to time.

    Thank you.

I shall not miss CurrentTV, but then I would not miss most any "News" channel that spends it's editorial time preaching to the choir.

You got that right. Cenk and The Young Turks are a breath of fresh air even as you say Cenk can be one of President Obama's most devastating critics. Just like he was last night over what he deemed the president's failure on negotiating the fiscal cliff. And like you I also occassionally got something out of Elliot Spitzer but preferred Jennifer Granholm who I actually found more knowledgeable about politics.

However, I've actually come to admire and appreciate Al Jazeera's reporting and am interested to see what they can do with another channel.

You already said you don't watch Cable TV, so I assume you've never seen any of Current TV's programming. I suspect you're just gleeful because you think maybe Al Gore lost some money.

Glenn Beck tried to buy Current TV,
    Al Gore went with Al-Jazeera
Glenn Beck's Blaze Media approached the struggling cable news network last year, the Wall Street Journal reports[IMG], but was rebuffed because "the legacy of who the network goes to is important to us and we are sensitive to networks not aligned with our point of view."
    Instead,

Gore went with the Emir of Qatar-funded Arab news channel Al-Jazeera.

Al-Jazeera has been criticized for having a pro-Islamist bent, and accused of working with members of Al Qaeda.

Yeah, I know what kind of woman you like. ;)

Have you seen this clip? She was pretty hot when she was 19, in a 70's kind of way. :)
