Note: I typed "Naked Old People" into my google search button..... I was trying to find a tasteful picture of a mature nude, and I did find a few. The thing that was funny, (at least to me), is there was a clothed picture of Madonna. Do you think she would find it funny to be classified with "old people"?

First - I don't think Madonna is old, but she would be horrified to be classified as such. Hell she's dating a man that's 27 years old.

Second - I wanted to find a tasteful picture of an older couple who prove that age is just a number. Some were just funny though.

So much for that scene! GRRR!

 

My husband, children and I went out to dinner last night and had an altercation. I'd like to know from everyone what you think.

My autistic son was being good and having a good time at the restaurant. In public, he wears "ear bud" headphones and watches videos on my cell phone to drown out some of the noise. He does have a 'self soothing' routine of rocking back and forth slightly in his chair, and sometimes he hums as well. He wasn't being loud or disruptive to anyone else around us, but it is noticable that he isn't a "typical" child.

There was a woman seated not far from our table that kept staring, pointing and making comments obviously about him. I got hurt and offended and said to her "He has special issues and can't help his behavior, you on the other hand are too old to be this rude." To which she replyed, "who are you calling old, you are older than me you ******* *******"

Because my children were right there, I didn't want to get into a heated argument, so I just let it go saying "whatever".

So I have a few questions...

Was I right/ wrong for calling her out?
Would you have said anything?
Do you think it's a little odd that her response only addressed the age issue?

My husband told me I should have just ignored her, but I just can't have people making fun of/ being rude to my sons.

 

Ignoring her would have been the path of least resistance, but difficult since she made it a point of NOT ignoring you and your family.

Maybe you should have told her that God only gives special kids to those fit to raise them. You might have also told her that ignorance is a disability which can be fixed, unlike your son's problem, so she has less excuse for behaving inappropriately in public than he does.

 

NEW - I say you handled it the best way you could. You stood up for your children and handled the older woman without getting into a mass altercation.

Hi NEW - of course you were right to call her out! It's shocking that in this day and age there are still people like that atrocious woman. You were probably right not to continue the confrontation, as it would have been counter-productive to have caused a scene (especially in front of your children), but it is a pity that you could not. However, it might well have been pointless, someone like that woman would be unlikely to appreciate exactly what an utter prig she is.

What if you stood up and went over to her table, with your drink in hand, and apologized loudly for your son disturbing her mail, gesticulating like a good Italian should, and whoa...sorry...(as the contents of your drink flies out of the glass and lands all over her)...oh my...I'm so clumsy!

I was once walking on a home site and carrying a 2 x 4. Some guy was heckling me, and had been for days. So I stopped, looked at him and said "I'm sorry for being an annoyance to you." Then I turned and started apologizing to the rest of his group. As I turned 180 degrees, the 2 x 4 clobbered him, and then I turned back and lowered the other end and moved toward him to "assist"...the 2 x 4 pushed along the ground between his legs. He looked up at me and started to reach for me, so naturally (!) I was startled and jumped back...and up...and the 2 x 4 caught him square in the balls. He dropped.

His group stood there with mouths agape and laughed their asses off. Never had an issue with him again.

Purely accidental, you see.
