I'm all for equity, but has modern feminism really come to this?

Allowing women on the front lines in the military---but not requiring all women to register for the draft when they turn 18 like men have to---is just another case of the hypocrisy of feminism.

They say that they want to be equal...but they don't really mean it.

 

I was under the impression that the US military is a volunteer service, they dropped the draft in 1973. So how can that be hypocrisy

 

Men still have to register when they turn 18. It's the law. If you don't register, you can't get federal financial aid and, theoretically, they could throw you in prison. It was "ended", but that "end" will disappear as soon as they need it again.

 

it all depends on exactly WHAT IS Feminism;

as I was growing up, I was told it was recognizeing women are equal but different to men.

NOW it seems it's the beliefe that they are SUPPERIOR to men. in which case; Feminism is JUST as much SEXIST TRIPE as is Male Cheauvanism.

Personally, I consider the two sexes EQUALLY worthy of respect and curtosy; however, the two sexes have DIFFERENT Natural PURPOSES.

A belief that seems to generate intolerance in this insane time.

 

I think feminism is effectively dead and all that remains are some looney buggers clinging to the banner.

I mean what do people think of nowadays when the word feminism is used? Vegan man-hating penis-envying women wearing unfashionable clothes comes to mind. What woman is going to want to be associated with that? Only the looney ones.

Women don't need a feminism movement any more, they can fight for their rights under the banner of equality, as can any minority come to that, and they are far more likely to be listened to than if they start waving the feminism banner.

 

I feel that more could be said here but I'm at a loss of words. Yes the article is ridiculous and yes feminism like anything else has been taken to an extreme that is down right laughable. I'm not one to deny that we've made great strides and progress in gaining equality for all but the fact is that in some respects we still have a long way to go. I mean seriously, men still make more money then women (assuming they do the same job, same education, experience etc etc). So yeah... : /

 

what all fuckers with cocks don't appreciate is the fact women carry some bad ass for 9 months and give birth makes then the greater of the species. If we take the biblical view of eve being punished then this God you serve is a mother fucker!!

 

I don't mind women making equal salaries to those with the same position, education, experience, and production. It all depends on how salaries are doled out though. I've only worked minimum/near minimum wage jobs, so all of us had low pay regardless.

I'm not making a case that women are the weaker species, it's been shown that biologically they are initially the stronger sex. What I'm trying to point out is: aren't there better things to be working towards than men taking up "too much" space?

 

I'm all for equality in any situation, my point is that the term "feminism" has become a bit of a joke with negative connotations that does not really do the cause of women any good.

By all means people should fight and campaign for equal rights for women, but leave the F word out of it if you want to be taken seriously.

 

No I feel ya brother. Honestly my boyfriend would be public enemy number one to these women because he always stretches out and sleeps like that in public! I think its quite funny he can pretty much fall asleep anywhere he wants and does.

It seems silly but to be a woman on public transportation is really scary sometimes. You have to take the bus to get places when you can't afford a car, and if you don't get a seat you WILL be groped and felt up many times. When it's crowded you see guys blocking a seat with their legs apart and you just want to sit so at least nobody can grab your ass. You have to be alert ALL THE TIME if there are groups of guys around coming from school or from drinking or whatever they were doing. There was that girl in India that was attacked and died. I know complaining about guys taking up too much space isn't the same thing but I think it is just part of women being safe on public transportation because a lot of times we really aren't. If you don't have money for a car this is what women have to deal with.

 

Over all, women generally are paid very close to what men are paid on an hourly basis. The gap between the hourly wages of men versus women isn't that big although it still exists. The primary difference starts to show up when you compare the number of hours worked by men versus women. Women routinely work fewer hours as a result of family obligations and health issues than men do and as a result their pay checks tend to be smaller.

When I worked in an office where the workplace was mostly comprised of women, many of the women would leave early from work, take longer lunch breaks to handle personal business, show up late as a result of personal business etc. They also tended to spend more time with medical issues than the men did. There were a number of women in the office that spent substantially more time out of work than others, and there were a number of women that actually showed up like the men and left with the men and didn't have these other engagements. But the bulk of the women simply spent more time out that the rest of the floor.

On the flip side of all that, most of the men had wives or girlfriends that handled most of these things for them so they didn't have to leave work to do it themselves. The men were never responsible to handle any of the child care issues like dealing with sick children or school issues. And lets face reality, one of the reasons that women tend to live longer than men do is that men generally don't go to the doctor unless something is bleeding or falling off, where women have things that they see doctors for on a regular basis. So it's not like these women were out screwing off or anything, they just had a different set of priorities and responsibilities that they had to live up to than their male counterparts. But any way you slice it they still work fewer hours and as a result make less money.

 

A lot of people also have to work extra hours but they don't get paid overtime for it that is both men and women. Women also get fired all the time for being pregnant or even if they are abused. Believe it or not it is true I know women that were fired from waitress jobs for coming to work with injuries caused by a man at home.

 

That's Why they invented MACE! Oh, and nine inch metal spiked heels!

 

True story! Whenever I ride the tube with my bf if its too crowded I cling to him like white on rice because I get uncomfortable. Granted for me its just people in general not specifically men but I know what you mean.

YES!!! Thank you! These guys never had a job where they were REQUIRED to wear a a skirt but also had to take a bus because they couldn't afford a car. They don't know what it is like to have to think about how to position yourself so some random guy doesn't grab you to try going up your skirt. Guys, that's that EVERY DAY is like for a lot of women!
