Obama could have been considered greater than Roosevelt IF he had spent TARP on actually creating jobs. Most of the paved country roads around here were first built with WPA workers, as an example.

Before moving on the signature reforms of the New Deal like Social Security, unemployment compensation, and the minimum wage Roosevelt presided over a significant decline in unemployment. That resulted in Democrat gains during the Congressional election of 1934. Those gains gave Roosevelt the power to do more to end the Great Depression.

From 2008 to 2010 the unemployment rate went up. That resulted in Republican gains in 2010.

Right now there should be no cuts in government spending, and substantial tax increases for the well to do. That is what the voters want. It is what ended the Great Depression.

There was a significant tax increase January 1, 2013 that affected a lot of Americans, not just the rich. Obama is insisting on more tax increases and promises cuts. It took sequester to get any cuts.
