I don't think any priest wants to become a pope. Being older is not being out of touch with reality. Elderly people have more experiences with reality. The advanced age of the popes keeps them from being Pope for too long. Imagine a 50 year old Pope being Pope for 30 or 40 years. Too long.

I think it's great that a South American Pope has been chosen, There are more catholics in South America than in Europe.

Look at the graph. The countries that have the most catholics are non- white. Hence my original post. I'm glad the bishops voted in a man from South America, but as far as his looks.... He looks like every other Eastern European elected pope.

I like this Pope (I am an atheist) and I think it is about time there was a south-American Pope as 42% of the (sexually-repressed deranged cult delusionalists of) cult in question reside there.
He has the psychology showmanship which connects with the people! that is a good thing.

Surely he will breath some enchantment and charisma into the institution which it needs.

I was all gung-ho about this new guy until I found out he's just as anti-LGBT as the previous guy. More of the same. *le sigh*

 

I dig the new pope, he looks like he takes this religion thing seriously, is humble and has moderate views.
