I am a republican. Most of my friends are republicans. I do not know anyone that wants to get rid of social security, medicare, or even welfare. you are full of it.

Where I live if a person wants to describe another person who happens to be black they just call them a democrat. Everyone knows they are describing a black person.

No. for me this is not about racism and I resent the idea. I believe that all members of every race are capable of supporting themselves. The problem with welfare is that we have it set up to insentivize poverty. the system is not set up to reward anybody for trying to get off of it.

 

The purpose of welfare is to help those that can't help themselves. No one with any sense wants to get rid of that. The purpose of welfare is not to be everyone's backup plan when things don't go right, and it certainly isn't the purpose of welfare to help those that won't help themselves.

I know what it is like to be poor, I know what it's like to not have electricity or heating in the winter. I know what it's like to have gone to one of the worst schools in the country. I grew up in one of the few places in Britain to know what it's like for a white person to be a minority.

My parent's never took welfare, even when they probably should have. I would have liked a television in the house when I was younger like everyone else, but maybe then I wouldn't have sat outside watching the night sky stars (albeit obscured by light pollution) and perhaps then I wouldn't be so interested in science. For all one knows I might not then have bothered in school, thus maybe now I'd be a bum on welfare still watching T.V. So it's feasible I was lucky after all.

People today think they are owed a living, many even think they are owed welfare cheque if they choose not to work. We live in an entitlement culture where people fail to grasp that nobody owes anyone anything. If you want something, you should earn it.

I don't think it's fair that as someone who went to a crap, rough school, endured years of bullying because I wanted to make the most of the little education I was offered. Worked my ass off to afford university without taking a loan, to at later life give away large chunk of my income to those that believe they are entitled to it for doing absolutely nothing with their lives.

 

There have been some moderately successful programs "Work-fare" where the recipient got more net income if they were working than they did without the program.

But from what I understand, many of these programs died because of the paperwork loads on social workers.

Personally, I have witnessed first class welfare fraud and have been penalized for not going along with it. To the tune of many tens of thousands of dollars. With crystal clear proof and with the tenacity to keep trying, I was rebuffed by both state and federal officials. After several years, I gave up.

It is the presidents responsibility to unite the country and get things done. Obama has done nothing but further divide this country. He had a super majority at the first of his presidency and still couldn't get anything meaningful done!

These are made up scandals. Ever since Watergate Republicans have been hoping that they could find something that would destroy a Democratic president. As every detail was reported of the Monica Lewinsky "scandal" Clinton's approval rating went up.

 

That shouldn't be something for the democrats to brag about.
It should show how low the democratic party is when they try to defend Clinton.

 

During the Monica Lewinsky "scandal" most Americans thought Congressional Republicans should grow up and stop acting like twelve year old boys giggling and snickering over a copy of Hustler.

Speaking of Hustler, during this "scandal" Larry Flynt proved that many Republican politicians who claimed to be shocked by Clinton's behavior were preposterous hypocrites with shocking misdeeds of their own to confess. :shock:
