Technology have accelerated our childrens mental developement in regard to knowledge by many years. But at the same time it slowed down skills developement and mental maturety.

Yes laws are there to protect the innocent.

Actually a lot of Southern states here in the US have had very young age of consent statutes, KY for one example had several counties setting such at 12.

 

I am sorry but I just do not think a 13 year old is mature enough to have sex in the US or any other part of the world.

Strange that nobody has bought neurology into the discussion. Realistically, humans don't have fully developed prefrontal cortex until at least early in 20s. What this means is that young children who are still developing the prefrontal cortex are not mentally capable of fully evaluating the consequences of their actions. This is especially true for sexuality given how many regions/countries still practice abstinence-only sex ed, or worse, no sex ed at all.

I will lay money on the table that most girls between 13-15 don't have the first clue about the physical and emotional consequences of having sex and shouldn't be having it, especially not with someone who is more than likely taking advantage of their position as an authority figure.

Forget opinions. Age of consent in the US is based on goddamn science, which is why countries with lower consent ages get side-eyed REALLY hard by the US and others.

In England it is 16 for age of consent. It should be removed altogether and the law should state that the person should make up their own minds.

We have rape laws here in England so they should be the deciding factor. If its a no it means no. A yes should mean it is legal. Simple.

Age of consent is not there to say that kids can't fool around together. It is there to protect children from the abuse of power. Coerced consent through abuse of authority is rape whether the child verbally says "yes" or not.

Because the wider the age gap between preteen/teen and adult, the more likely it is that there is some kind of manipulation, abuse of power, coercion, or otherwise non-consensual sex going on.

 

But fucked is fucked, no matter the age of either.
Why would it be alright for someone a certain age to fuck another but those a day older cannot?
It should be easy to ask if it was any of the above. It is against the law to fuck anyone by those means.

 

Samantha...The age of consent laws are set by states not the President. And it is the countries who set those ages as low as 13 that need to "get with it" and raise them to protect children. Oh! and in keeping with your attitude..........DUH!!
