Been here for a few years now but work has kept me from participating more. I'll be here as long as I'm able....but then again I hear there's a campaign to get me banned. I was just started to spread my wings....oh well.

I'll accept the "bitchiness" as maybe you feel I haven't earned the right yet. Wasn't intended to be anything other than amusing. I think we deserve more than a yawn and at least one chuckle.

That 2009 date means that I was away and haven't been online. I wasn't pointed out the date as I actually don't think it means anything. I had a few more pressing issues like getting home after serving in the military.....call it a excuse but it is what it is.

........wow. The mods here must be really relaxed. On every forum i've been on and on one that I help mod, anytime users start going at it towards each other, mods instantly jump in and tell everyone to shut up or they'll be banned.

But anyway, to answer your question, as another user stated, building a cred always helps. You have to get out there in the community and contribute. Most people look at you and think "they don't look like they have a lot to offer" and then pass you by. And then of course there is also most likely a large amount of people here who don't really want to talk. They're just here for the stories and pictures.

Personally, I think if you're going to join a forum, you need to sociable. That's whole fucking point of joining a forum. To get out there and hold conversations with people. I know that forums can be intimidating places, but you just gotta risk it and jump in. Feel around and find out what people generally like to talk about and observe their comments to get a feeling for how they respond to certain situations and jokes.

And never let the whole "oh, you only have *insert small amount of posts here*" thing bother you. I see people all the time that think the amount of posts you have actually means something. It doesn't mean anything. A person with 5 posts can be more mature and give more meaningful responses than someone who has 2,000. Having only a handful does not make you a newb (n00b). How much experience you've had on forums in the past determines how noobish you are. Ranks and post counts don't mean jack shit. It's the quality of your posts that really matter. I'd rather have 5 good quality posts than 2,000 shit stain posts.

 

After some thought on this, I realize that every forum is different. Most of the forums I used to frequents and the ones I still do focus on respect for the individual, and many of them had children on the site so it was a way of teaching how to disagree with someone respectfully without the need for name calling and useless strong language. With this being a forum for adults, I guess nobody really cares. We're adults, we should be able to moderate ourselves and not act like little children. Bound to happen...nobody is perfect.

I meant no disrespect to the mods/admins in my original post, by the way. Just making an observation based on past experience.
