Just an anecdote I thought I would share. One day in the not too distant past I was on a business trip in Dallas, Texas. I had never been to Texas but being from the U.S ( west coast ) I figured things could'nt be too different here, boy was I wrong. I had gotten of my plane and took a shuttle to a rental car place to pick up a ride. Everything had gone well, I filled out the paper work picked up the keys to my reserved car and was on my way out the door. As I was exiting I noticed ( through the glass doors ) a not so attractive middle aged woman approching at the same time. Being a gentleman I exited through the doors and proceded to hold the door open for her. As I stood there holding the door she just stoped and stared at me. I told her I was on my way out and that she could go ahead. Little did I know my gesture of common courtesy would infuriate this woman. She proceded to affront me, calling me a chuevanist pig and accuseing me of being an anti-femanist. After her tyrade she turned and stormed off. I was dumb founded and I felt insulted. Little did I know justice would be swift. She walked away feeling as though she had just scored a victory for feminism when suddenly as she passed the first row of cars in the parking lot I saw a blur. From behind the first car she passed Chuck Norris leapt out fast as a cheetah. In an instant he laid a flying drop kick on her sending her body tumbling through the air over 100 feet like a rag doll. Being a fan of Walker Texas Ranger I suppose I wasnt to surprised by these events seeing as how I was in Texas. Justice was indeed swift that day. I guess my question is, are women offended when men hold the door open for them?

 

I don't think holding a door for anybody, male or female is out dated. Yes it is sort of a common courtesy. As for the whole Chuck Norris drop kick thing, good she had it coming.

 

She was a chauvinist feminist pig.....so that's that.
And don't you dare think most Texas are like that, they are very nice and friendly, I lived there.

 

I don't think all texans are that way. I guess my question was are all women like that? Besides all texans can't be that way because,

I think that anyone should hold the door open if there is someone coming in or out behind them.

 

I hold the door for all people! If it happens to be a hot woman,I check out her ass as she passes!:mrgreen:

I tell women that don't appreciate common courtesies to get a life. If I'm leaving or entering, be it a woman or a man, I'll hold the door for them.

 

I had a similar experience holding a door open at a Walgreens drug store in downtown San Francisco. This woman (who had the full-on militant lesbian look happening), actaully stopped long enough to spit directly on my shoe and say, "I can handle my own fucking door." while giving me a death stare. I was absolutely dumbfounded that someone would respond that way to such a simple courtesy. I just walked away - she waited until I left to re-open the door for herself.

 

It's not like I stand by the door and open, but if someone is behind me, I sure hold it open for them long enough so they can slip through. Men or Women, I just like being polite

Girlfriend just needs her ass-whipped and good home training. She'll review that later in life and regret it . . . believe me.

In my case, I get angry when people open doors for others, and the "others" don't say "THANK YOU" to the person holding the door. Whenever anyone does some sort of common courtesy toward me, I make sure they are given the appropriate appreciation for their thoughtfulness and good manners.

There are A LOT of people out there in need of good home-training. Parents have been very lax.

 

it's common courtesy to at least hold the door open for somebody if they're right behind you, it's called manners

Male or female it's common courtesy .Do it without expectation.
I think that's where we all fall down,we expect too much!

Speaking of doors did you know that Chuck Norris is the only man alive that is capable of slamming a revolving door shut.

 

I once held a door open for a woman at work and stood back to let her through. She yelled at me "I'm not THAT big!" and huffed past me. Next time she came near a door I was going through I let it fall back into her.
By the way - she was that big though!
