And a couple of forums I belong to get off on shit like doing that. I think it quite idiotic, but there you go. There are whole threads dedicated to posting the entire conversation online just so people can laugh at it.

You should have turned the tables on them and said you were a special agent in charge of investigations into the allegations of defrauding Dateline, and that you had a few questions. Tell them that their ISP has been notified of the abuse and a warrant for their personal information is being processed. Wish them a good evening and tell them you will call them tomorrow.

Don't worry, it was just someone getting their jollies by putting a scare on you.

Also, you should just walk (run) away from anyone who says they are under 18 regardless of age of consent in your state. Especially since you don't know what state they are in, and how the local laws can be interpreted.
