He actually died on the 6th and I just found out while wandering around wikipedia. Haven't found out anything specific about his death or possible causes, but I'm willing to bet his age was a factor. He was 93.

Greatest actor in the world? Hahahahahahahahahaha....I remember him all the way back to his Andy Hardy days but a great actor? No way. For a little 5'2" squirt he sure got him share of pussy though, but he had to marry to get it....8 times.

 

The longest lasting career of any movie star. More hit movies than any other actor in history. The only living (up until the 6th) silent movie star.

No one ever has and it is unlikely that anyone ever will, have the portfolio that this little guy had.

I concur he may not have been 'the greatest' but he sure as hell lived a damn full life and was an amazing Hollywood fixture for decades.

His version of Puck, in Midsummer Night's Dream back in the 1930s, is amazing and very extreme -- he was practically out of control -- all elemental and wild -- I thought of the kid's book from the sixties, where the wild things are.

And he did some stuff on TV in the 1950s and early 1960s that was pretty good, pretty intense, and gave him a chance to get rid of that good golly what a nice boy Andy Hardy is.

My guess is that, in addition to marrying Ava Gardner (what a fuck she must have been), he screwed Judy Garland and Deanna Durbin, Ann Rutherford and god knows who else. What a life -- pumping young starlets full of cum and living life hard and fast.

Translation: I got nothing to back up my big mouth as usual. If you define "Hit" in dollars, or attendees, or awards then Rooney isn't in the running. He made his movies during the depression and ww2 and the movies were short, and not very important but the name of the game was get the dime at the box office. Simple stuff to find out, just try to be more objective in your opinions about subjective stuff.

What your opinion is has no bearing on the facts. No one has starred in more films over as long a period of time, there is a film, to be released this summer, in which he plays a recurring role. Wayne has been dead for damn near 40 years.

 

Can you find (because I'm trying, and can't!) exactly how many of those films count as leading or major roles, as opposed to Spear Carrier Number Three sort of thing? Wayne was uncredited for the first dozen or so of his films, but given Rooney's unending appetite for work I'd bet he took a lot of crappy minor roles when he didn't have big ones lined up, just because he'd rather be doing rubbish acting than no acting.

 

Hold it. I am not contesting the quantity of Rooney's films. I am contesting your assertion that he had "more hit movies than any other actor" and that, my friend is NOT true and you pick the criteria for hit. Wayne was only one of many to have more hits than Rooney.
