Finding good taboo stories about rape, torture, and other taboo topics is really difficult on this site. Due to the number of people who down vote a story just because they disagree with the content. Even if it is written very well and clearly. It's really annoying to see a good story get down voted to 80% or below just because people don't like rape stories. Even when they put "rape" and "non-consensual" in the tags, or even posted a disclaimer at the beginning stating it's just a fantasy and they disagree with doing such a thing in real life. Don't read it if you don't like the content.

There really aught to be a section in this sight like "taboo fantasy" or something either than just "dark fantasy" to separate out these stories, so people who are offended by them stop reading them.

 

Sadly, there are too many self righteous people out there who feel that it's their obligation to do what they can to make the kind of stories you describe vanish into the oblivion of the internet 'no-view zone'. They take great pleasure in down voting stories with topics they don't like just so others can't read and enjoy them. It's a form of internet bullying which cannot be controlled because a lot of the people doing it are able to do it anonymously.

 

It would be great if you were required to log in to vote. Than if someone is just going around down voting stories they could get their IP banned.

But I don't think this site will ever be that proactive lol.

 

I agree. I suggested that the site require people to register if they wanted to vote but that idea was nixed.

Personally, if I don't like a story line, even if it was written well, I just don't vote. In my opinion it's fairer than giving it a negative. As readers, if we don't like the story we have the option of clicking away.

 

You do have that option not to not allow anonymous votes.

Here is an idea for thought, allow anonymous votes, but require a comment as to the reason for the negative vote.

Another interesting point is down voting has seemed to go down since yesterday. I have my theory as to why that is but will keep it to myself for now since I can not prove it.

 

Limiting voting to members only unfortunately doesn't stop the problem. There are several members that down vote stories for no other reason then to be an ass hole. Thankfully though you can search out stories by other criteria other than there rating namely views, date, and name. The biggest problem I've always seen is you have to choose stories only by their title you know the old judging a book by its cover thing. There are many stories out there with cool titles but the story sucks.

People who are into the type of stories you're looking for need to hook up and compile a list of authors/stories that are what they say. Start a group maybe?

 

I do agree that it still happens. I had an obvious case of it last week when a person gave me a negative to put his story on top ahead of mine. At least I had a name to go with the down vote. I PM'd the user to ask about his reason for the negative vote and he never replied. His story quickly fell down in the ratings based on his own merit so there was no need to report him

 

There have been posts in here before about the crazy voting. There for a while there seemed to be a group of people who would down vote any new good story.

There also were some fantastic threads in here where people could nominate good writers. That thread lived strong for a long time. But like all good threads I guess has eventually faded.

Don't let it get to you. Just keep writing.

My latest hate is for the bots that seem to be able to post comments that are about some weird blog.

They have littered weird nonsense comments on so many stories. Finally I gave up and turned off comments on my stories. I hate that as when I was a new writer it was some of the comments that got me to keep writing.

 

A lot of the spam and Craigslist-type comments are being removed, but nasty, negative, garbage comments remain.

We've had writers in the past who voted down stories rated higher than theirs to boost their standings on the list or out of jealousy over another writer's success. We have voting trolls who give a negative to any story that doesn't allow anonymous votes. We have people who nuke new stories or popular ones because they apparently get their jollies from it.

The voting system we have here is flawed. It has been for a long time. The site has made changes over the years in an attempt to fix it, sometimes making the troll voting problem worse.

People who vote down stories for fun are cyber-vandals. They're the type who steals stop signs and paints graffiti on walls. Even though this is an adult website, we have some people who act like children.

This is why a lot of writers post both on the sex stories site and on the forum. On the forum you'll get a more honest opinion of the worth of your stories, simply because people must log in to comment, and because there's a loose reader/writer community here.





No doubt this post will cause my own ratings to fall.

 

Even considering our resident down-voter on stories which require logged in status to vote, I agree with this option and agree with the author using the restriction in their stories. At the very least, it allows the author to see just WHO is voting neg on them and restricts the trolls from multiple negs on different days.
IMO, a better option than allowing a pos/neg vote would be to incorporate a simple like option. If you do not like a story then your only "vote" is to leave it alone but by liking it, you affect how it is seen in the ratings.

Agreed. I rarely give a negative vote to a story.

 

The problem I have, is that I want to hear everyone's comments. I am a big boy, I can take some constructive criticism. ( Even the non constructive mean kind.) I don't want to restrict comments. Have something bad to say? Bring it on. My subject is one that brings a lot of emotional backlash.

The problem is, The downvoters rarely leave comments. If I knew why I was getting negative votes, I would at least understand.

Don't get me wrong. I am not upset. I feel I have gotten more than favorable reviews, just wondering about those negatives.

 

Couldn't agree more. I was raised with the principle of 'If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all.' So rather than giving a negative vote for something that isn't my cup of tea, I simply hit my back button.

That being said though, if it looks like somebody typed the story up with a hammer, I'm more likely to try and lend some constructive tips sans negative vote.

 

Are people not alllowed an opinion anymore? How well the story is written is subjective and not the only criteria for voting. Free speech is a wonderful thing. It means that if i dislike something. I have the right to express my displeasure or distaste however i choose to.

People are allowed an opinion and critiques are welcome. However, when they prefer to use the comment section to post their personal information and political views, along with spam, it ruins it for the writer who wants honest feedback. I turned off my comments when I had a stalker. This person started posting my personal information and started attacking my friends. If the site allowed us to require logged in comments only, it would be a whole lot easier to get rid of spammers. After all, we have the option of allowing voting by registered members only. If the voting point system were modified, I don't think we would see stories dropping into oblivion as fast.

 

These commenters are not referring to subjective opinions. They are referring to the fact that many stories get negative votes simply to remove them from being seen by potential readers. On the story side the higher rated stories are seen by more potential readers because they are listed on the front page. Because of that there are people out there who give negative votes just to bring the ratings down and I seriously doubt that they even read them before they vote negatively on them.

 

The forum side also has its own flaws. While there is the potential to get better and more complete feedback that is not always the case. Many times stories posted in the forum that have value are completely ignored unless it is a CAW entry, or is written by one of the writers inside of the "forum click."

If someone's opinion is that certain types of story should not appear on the front page, then they are entitled to hold that opinion.

 

You speak in ignorance my friend. As an author that has posted over fifty stories to this site (All of which are now deleted) I can tell you first hand that the content of a story doesn't matter one bit. I have posted stories that are completely romantic in nature, both on this site and others, and on this site they automatically get negative votes within the first five or ten minutes, while on other sites they get nothing but positive comments and votes. Don't get me wrong. This is a great site and I have nothing against it, but your opinion is uninformed. There is no doubt that stories posted on the story side are often voted negatively just for the sake of voting negatively and has absolutely no merit. I am not just referring to stories that are dark in nature. I am not just referring to stories that are niche. I am referring to all stories. It is common practice, for some idiotic reason, to vote negatively an a new story simply because it is on the front page.

 

You are pretty much correct, and it's a shame. There absolutely are trolls that sit around and vote down stories for no good reason. I'm sure some vote down stories so that their stories remain on the first page. There are others that vote them down just because they are mean-spirited people.

The voting system is flawed. A better system would be a "like" system. If you like a story, you click the "like" button. If you don't like it, you have no other option but to move on to another story. The stories with the most likes float to the top, etc.

That would be a much more fair system.
