It's that time again. Calling All Writers is a forum-organized writing challenge inviting anyone and everyone to submit a story on a certain theme. Readers vote on their favorite and the winner takes the helm for the next challenge. This time around, writers were asked to incorporate one line (or more than one) from the Snoopy-penned "novel" It Was a Dark and Stormy Night. Why that, of all things? Read my reasoning here, if you really want to know--or just skip that and read the stories, because that's what we're all here for, right?

We've got 13 entries, including two anonymous submissions, one team-up story, and a flat-out novel that ran 254 pages in the Word doc. Voting will start two weeks from today (October 25) and will last three days, with a winner announced November 11. To vote, just PM this account with the title of your favorite entry. Yep, nothing fancy this time: One reader, one vote, and the most votes wins, Sudden Death style.

Also wanted to comment on an issue I've noticed already--Horse's critiques...

I think you should keep writing them. Nothing frustrates me more when I post a story to the forum and it remains uncommented on and practically ignored. Critiques help writers grow, and as already came up in the story that led to it, it's just what one person thinks, it's not right or wrong, just commentary. I've read most of the critiques and while I think there are questions/comments that horse has had that make me scratch my head, it's no less valuable to have those discussions of it leads to people talking about stories

 

Nah, I'm done with posting critiques. I'll send a PM to someone with a critique, but I'm not posting them in public. Too easy to offend people.

 

In this forum, you can say what you wish. But, we all expect to be debated for our views. That's life. No winners, no losers, just healthy debate.

 

I have to agree with Annie. I would rather see constructive criticism, than watch my work go quietly down the drain with nothing.

Horse, I would love to get a critique of my story from you. (at your convenience of course.) If you want to post it that is fine by me. If you only want to do it through P.M. then so be it.
I am a big boy, I can take the heat. Those English classes I had in high school, are just a misty faded colored memory. (GOD HELP ME! Did I just quote Barbra Streisand???) I am aware that I have big problems in the grammar, and punctuation department. Ignorance, not laziness. So please, let me know, I promise to not be offended. Well up to a point.:excited:

Just came by to see if the stories were up and I see that they are....good, but the link to my story does not work. At least it doesn't work from my computer. Hope that can be fixed soon.

So why's someone going through all the CAW posts and 1 bombing them?

 

As Clarise used to say, this is why we can't have nice things. Some people are pretty sad.

 

yeah, I just noticed that several of the 4s are at 4 votes with an average score of 4. 4*4 is 16, and considering they were just 5s last night, only makes sense that it got one-bombed. Too bad.

 

Somebody fails to realize that the only reason for those stars on the CAW stories is to draw new readers to them; long time participants in the voting will continue to read them even if their ratings drop to abysmal levels.

I will, however, be one of the first to call for a voter-wide repudiation of that 1-bomber with ratings themselves.

I also have to wonder if admin might not have the tool to view what IP entered what vote?

 

I went through and five bombed them all. Not that those stars really mean anything.

 

When the stories first went up I went and gave each one their initial 5 rating. This morning I spent some time working on the "stars" and got a number of them back to 5, however, some stories simply have been hit with more lower star ratings than others. I can help no further. As I was working on this, I noticed that some stories came back to 5 much more quickly than others, so I surmise that a) there was a 1 bomb attack, and b) some stories got rated by more voters than others. If you wanna' help defeat the haters, just take 2 minutes and go rate each story a 5. Doesn't take long.

Now, it has been pointed out to me that it isn't fair that I attacked, er, I mean, critiqued some stories and not others in this public venue. Since I certainly want to be fair in said baseless and ruthless besiegement, I will continue with my cruel assault, er, reviews and hit upon all stories. I encourage any and all to feel free to tear into my stories with similar zest as you see fit.
