  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

I think he'd make a great leader. He could do tours round the White House or something. Just don't let him have a job where he can do any damage.

    Oh shit. Too late.

We can all make mistakes. I was ecstatic in 97 that we'd finally got rid of the Tories after all those years. After that I thought anything would be an improvement.

If I knew then what I know now I'm not sure how I would have voted.

I had realised by the next election, though.

    Fuck Bush!

And as far as I'm concerned he was never "voted" into office. He cheated his way in. And he's a complete dumbass!

But you said on the "war" thread that Bush was re-elected. Personally I think there was an awful lot of vote fraud going on both times he "won" the election.

Well, re-elected was a bad use of words.

In terms of the history books, he was re-elected. In terms of what I believe happened he simply "won" by means yet to be determined.

My thoughts on Chimpy are well known, so there's not much point in restating them. Suffice it to say, though, that your poll should have had a third option, something along the lines of "What, are you fucking kidding me??"

Also, for what it's worth, he was NOT voted into office.

Can't wait til he's gone. The first time he was elected was proof that our electoral system doesn't work. The people voted for Gore, the "electoral votes" got him in, and we've been suffering ever since.

It's not even as simple as that. Bush was not entitled to Florida's electoral votes in 2000, and not entitled to an Electoral College majority. It took a coup d'etat by the U.S. Supreme Court to make him the president.

So I'm watching Who Killed the Electric Car and what do you know, after big oil (Bush's pals) squashed the electric car Dubya starts THROWING money into Hydrogen Fuel Cells. Well HFCs won't be a viable option for about 20 more years. Electric cars were ON THE MARKET. They were selling in CA. People were on waiting lists to get one.

And another interesting fact....When GM came out with the EV1 (electric vehicle) they only gave people the option to lease. Once the leases were up they took the cars back (in some cases nearly prying them out of the owner's cold dead fingers). The owners WANTED to buy the cars. They offered to overpay in some cases. They tried everything to keep their cars! When, in history, has a major company actually gone to any lengths to keep a wanted/marketable/profitable product OFF the market?!!!!!! What the fuck kind of company TAKES a product away from consumers against their wishes?

And what did GM do when they got them all back??? They CLAIMED the cars would go to highschools, museums, college engineering programs, etc. They CLAIMED they'd be used as educational tools. What did GM actually do? They crushed them! Every last one! (Well, except for ONE that was disabled and put in the "historical vehicles vault). Protesters stood outside a GM facility to keep an eye on the remaining EVs so they wouldn't get destroyed...GM called the cops and hauled off the cars to crush them.

What the fuck is wrong with our country?!

Sorry, that was totally off topic. I'm just so pissed that Bush goes around telling us we're "addicted to oil" when we had a perfectly reasonable/viable solution at our fingertips and he just let it get ripped away!

I've never quite been able to buy into this particular conspiracy theory. Sure, GM might have done all that you say, but what stopped European or Japanese or Korean car manufacturers from making an electric car and selling it in the U.S.?

My theory is that the market for pure electric vehicles is pretty small, because of the range limitation and price tag, and car companies don't see any advantage in catering to it. Whereas the market for hybrids is large. Even with hybrids, the gasoline cost savings probably don't offset the higher cost of the vehicle.

The range limitation was "solved". They invented new batteries that give them a range more like 150 miles per charge (vs. the initial 60m/charge)...plus the ability to charge them anywhere vs. just at the "electric pumps" or at home.

Honda and Toyota also had EV cars. They too were squashed in the Bill against EVs. Most blame big oil. And the car manufacturers themselves. They make all their "after market" money off of combustion engine parts...mainly oil filters and oil.

And we have the japanese to thank for the hybrids we have today. Regan pushed a "hybrid policy" and got the wheels turning on the hybrid technology. The japanese manufacturers found out and started working on the technology in an effort to be able to compete when they hit the market. Then Bush1 became prez and killed the hybrid momentum. Honda and Toyota kept with their hybrid work and that's why their cars are the most efficient hybrids on the market (approx. 42 average mpg vs. the 25 american hybrids get).

The pricetag was slightly higher but the maintainence was nil. The 5,000 mile "check-up" on the EV1 consisted of tire rotation and refilling the wiper fluid.

The market wasn't small. The consumers who did buy their cars were instant converts. There were waiting lists to get one as soon as they hit the market. But the "test market" was too small. They were only marketed and available in LA county. Most of the country never knew they were actually available. I never knew they were on the market (I'm talking as recently as 1996. But they were all destroyed by 2006).

The cars charged up completely in 4 hours. Now they're looking at 150 miles/charge. That's a pretty reasonable amount of milage. Granted you couldn't drive from NYC to LA but it's not like you could do that in one day anyhow.

The point is, I don't think it was a lack of interest. I think it was a lack of faith on the part of the manufacturers and pressure from big oil....but that's just my opinion.
