  2. Hello,

You can now get verified on forum.

The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

I need to be able to recognize you in that picture. You need to have some pictures of your self in your gallery so I can compare that picture.

Please note that verification is completely optional and it won't give you any extra features or access. You will have a check mark (as I have now, if you want to look) and verification will only mean that you are who you say you are.

You may not use a fake pictures for verification. If you try to verify your account with a fake picture or someone else picture, or just spam me with fake pictures, you will get Banned!

The pictures that you will send me for verification won't be public

    Best regards,

    deviousdave,

I do not understand string theory. If you tried to explain it, I probably would still not understand it. However I am curious.

Does string theory have practical applications today? Can you think of practical applications it may have in the future?

By practical applications I mean, can understanding it help inventors invent new things?

You're probably the only person here who can answer those questions.

    String Theory is obsolete.

    Seriously.

Analogy: People argue back and forth about "Big Bang Theory," because it seems to imply that the universe began as a giant explosion. But "Big Bang Theory" is obsolete and has been replaced by several iterations of Inflation Theory. Inflation Theory does not imply that everything started with an explosion. Rather, it implies that the universe unfurled like origami, and that space, time and mass expanded (grew larger) as the boundary unfurled. Thus, it is nonsense to think that all of the "stuff" we see today was compressed in an infinitely small space. Yes, it was very small in the beginning, but then again it didn't hold much! All the energy and mass expanded with the universe as it unfurled.

The length of the universe at the beginning, according to Inflation Theory, was in fact not "infinitely small." The length was exactly equal to a special quantity called the Planck Length.

The Planck Length, it so happens, is exactly the diameter of a String, and that is why String Theory matters.

However, like "Big Bang Theory," "String Theory" is also obsolete.

Why? Because the universe, at its beginning, was not a tiny point. It was a volume, and the volume had a shape.

The shape is described in a branch of mathematics called Group Theory, and the shape has a name: a Calabi Yau Shape.

String Theory does not adequately describe Calabi Yau Shapes, but its successor does. String Theory's successor is M-Theory.

The "M" in M-Theory is an inside joke, and there is speculation that it could mean lots of things. Viable candidates: "mystery," "matrix," and "membrane." If I had to guess, I would guess M stands for Membrane because spacetime according to M-Theory is described as multidimensional membranes called World Sheets.

So, you should not be asking Devious Dave about String Theory. You should be asking him about M-Theory.

And with that, I'll let him take it from here, because I'm bored.

You know TheBoreGuy , I don't understand, when you ask the question, "what is your proof?" I mean, what proof are you looking for? And also, what does the word God mean to you?

Boy that's a tough question. Probably one that deserves its own thread. I'll write up a response to you and Clarise later.

I would like an intellectual, thought provoking talk about religion and God on this forum.Parceque you can not find yourself, unless you do not have a heart! Because the thought of the divine religion and intellectual lodge deep in your heart! If you are a heartless is a problem!

in reading this thread, i wont claim to know if this has been the case so far but i do accept that there are those out there in the wide world whose reliance on "science" does smack of religious zeal. Also the scientific community is and always has been made up of fallible humans who are susceptible to feuds, political and funding issues these are just some of the reasons that point to why the system is by no means perfect -but the building blocks of knowledge are there so you could literally re-invent the wheel and demonstrate and test and confirm, prove or disprove every known discovery up to modern day before you even start doing new research, if you had the time. or you could simply build on what is known to be true, in essence putting faith in the body of knowledge.
beyond this is scientific theory or projections based on widely accepted principles, which are open to acceptance or otherwise but are yet to be proven fact.
but this is the fundamental difference with religious faith, based on theology.
religious faith is its own proof, the "evident demonstration of reality though not beheld." its mere existence despite opposition and longevity are a basis of faith. it is reliant on miracles, fulfillment of prophesy, anecdotal evidence on ancient manuscripts and such like.... and that is all enough for the majority of people in the world today.
me, i'd rather hit the surf:)

wait...thats pretty much what you already said. lol

I am a simple man (of science) and do not go in for much philosophical bullshit. Tell the truth, teach the young the truth, learn from life. If there is a god, she/he has done a really crappy job of it. How many "one" religions are there in the world? Jews, Christians, and moslims cksp ALL profess to believe in the same god. the god of Abraham, from whom all claim ascendance, Yet for well over a thousand years who knows how many lives have been shed in HIS mane. Then add a double handful or seven of other religions. She/he sure has screwed the pooch for believability. Freewill is a bitch. If this all knowing entity really knows anything, then she/he is keeping it very close to her/his chest. Put me in the Agnostic side of the counting board. I really do not know if there is or if there is not a god. but if there is one.....he/she/it is a real fuck up.

You are a young man and you should not be led astray by theories that people have. One thing you will learn in life is that no human being knows everything. A human being cannot prove God does not exist, period. God may be a force in a dimension not yet discovered, God may be a super intelligent being from another galaxy. No one really knows. Whoever claims they know for sure are frauds. I'll give you a example of a force, certain animals fur changes color in the winter time where there is snow, to white. To help conceal them from predators. Humans call that force mother nature. Some call it evolution. Humans also have a force in them, humans call it their conscience, you know those two voices in your mind that try and convince you to either do right or wrong. Where do these forces come from? Since no one really knows for sure, no one has come back from the dead to confirm it either way, the prudent person would err on the side of caution. A really intelligent being having no proof either way would admit they really do not know. So being a atheist really is a sign of inferior reasoning. So I'll err on the side of caution. Have you ever been exposed to the Christian religion? It has been reported when atheists are confronted with the prospect of certain death they plead with God to help them. Something to consider.
