I had a recent experience with a '69 roadrunner with the 446pack that was pretty rocking. I don't know about drag racing. Imho racing is all about the driver. I think it's all in what your raised on/used to.

440 engine, 6 Barrel carb setup, if it was a Road Runner. Plymouth calls it 6 barrel Dodge calls it 6 pack, Pontiac calls it Tri-power. 69 Road Runner with 440 6 barrel is actually what took first place the first year I went to the pure stock drags...and the only year I paid attention to what cars placed where. 2nd was a 70 Hemi Cuda, Third was a 69 Buick GS. Then there were a lot of other Mopars and GTO, GS(X), and Cutlass' and some Torino's and Fairlanes...Seemed like all of the bigger cars ran better. Not many Mustangs, Camaros, Vettes, Dusters, etc

Pure Stock, not Pure Pro Stock...and that means that the engine transmission, and everything is built just like it rolled off the show room floor. Then there is a certified pure stock, if your car wasn't certified that year, and you win, there is a * next to the win. I live in GM town, and all the guys around here cry about the cost of a head gasket cuz you have to pull the head off to be certified. Those of us who have nothing to hide have no issues about pulling off the head. One guy with a GTO I know from the bar, one time he SHOWED me his cheats and was bragging about them, forgetting I go to the same race. Then The GS that took 3rd at 14.02 ran a 15.000 against me during qualify, so was obviously sandbagging. My uncle (on my mom's side) is a big GM guy, and came with us to watch...and he was PISSED about so many Buicks and Ponitiacs being in the top 10, said none of them EVER run like that back in the day.
