I was banned from the Flaming Lips fan forum for mentioning the name of a banned poster in my third post. Since you are still here, we can assume xnxx is not that strict.

There are plenty of forums and no one is forced to stay here, but honestly, after reading the posts of some of the sickfucks around here, I can't imagine where else they would be allowed to get to their third post.

 

If I created an internet forum I would want to emulate the atmosphere of the Op Ed section of a newspaper or opinion journal. Good writing would be appreciated, but not required. Controversial opinions would be welcome. Obscene words and flaming would be prohibited. The Rules would be clearly stated, and strictly enforced without favoritism. Banning decisions would be explained.

There is probably a market for that sort of thing. Internet forums like that probably exist.

I doubt most existing XNXX posters would like those restrictions. It would be unwise to try to change XNXX by adopting those Rules.

Quite a few XNXX posters have strong opinions, but they are not well informed. When they encounter an opinion they dislike their only recourse is a blast of invective.

It is a lot easier to call President Obama a "commie" than it is to explain why his policies are unwise.

It is a lot easier to call me a "racist" than it is to explain why my assertion that racial differences are significant, and have a durability that strongly indicates genetic causation is mistaken.

 

Enforcing rules is work. Enforcing rules properly and fairly is a lot of fucking work.

On one of my forums, most powers are reserved for the admin, who is the site owner. The mods have very limited privileges and just about the most they can do is move an offending post or thread to a secret forum. The admin can easily undo any mod action. The other forum is quite different. It has strict rules of decorum. Insults, goading, flaming, and the such are not allowed. The offending party will be warned and the posted edited to bring it within standards. After a few violations, the user may be suspended or banned.

Most people get it and play by the rules, or at least play along with the rules. There are a thousand ways to say "fucking idiot," without saying fucking idiot. I've never called anyone a liar, which is an insult, but I've lost count of how many times I responded with, "This is not credible." It means the same thing and everyone knows it.

Most insults and flaming are the result of one action which no rule can prevent. No one can be required to acknowledge the other person's argument is superior, and no one can be required to answer any question. If you want to see high octane flaming, look for someone who knows they are right, but the other guy just won't say it out loud.

 

On Stormfront every comment is reviewed before it is posted. That is labor intensive, and probably requires the moderators to be paid. Stormfront has a surprisingly civil atmosphere, but those who do not share the ideology of the website get banned, as I did after two weeks, even though I was careful to obey the posted Rules.

On my ideal internet forum there would be no ideological agenda, so no one could complain, "If that is what you think, why are you here?"

A less labor intensive way of enforcing the Rules is the way already in use on XNXX. Posters who think a comment violates the Rules can report it to the moderators.

 

Stormfront is an echo chamber which was formed just to collect names for political contribution mailing lists. The place is neatly divided between the conmen and the marks. If you are not one or the other, you get shoved out the door.

No,it's not. Today's right wing white supremacist group takes their model from TV preachers. Thousands of people send in money, anything from $5 to $20 a month, so the Grand Imperial Kleegal can "keep up the good work." Before the internet, one would actually receive a monthly newsletter. Now you get an email. There's really no difference. All the money goes to the living expenses of the groups leadership, which is usually one person and their family.
That's it. They can't make political contributions. It would be toxic to any candidate who has a realistic chance of winning any election. They can't act on any of their rhetoric and commit a criminal act, because these organizations are legal corporations. Besides being tried in criminal court, the victims of their persecution can sue in civil court and seize corporate assets. They exist to collect money and talk big, which brings in more money.

 

I should have removed the first line from your previous post. It was with reference to forums in general, not one with a political push.

 

Except for the Flaming Lips fan forum, the forums I frequent, have a wide variety of views expressed.

This place certainly has a diverse bunch.

 

Considering you mod on others why be here? Haven't you had enough? Aren't the members demanding enough or are the forums in decline? I ask because the mods here, well some have, stated that they are not active elsewhere.

 

I suspect Stormfront costs a lot of money to operate. There are other white supremacist and anti Semitic websites on the internet. These people have national aspirations of secession and of creating a country within the existing United States where only white Gentiles will be allowed to live.

White supremacists are whites who have been losing ground economically. They are angry about it, and prefer to direct their anger at non whites and Jews, rather than at the one percent. If the economy remains stagnant white supremacy could become a powerful movement. Even though these people are unlikely to create a country where only white Gentiles are allowed to live, they may become the vanguard of a cultural shift that devalues those who are not white, Gentile, and heterosexual.

 

The simplest answer maybe that I have too much time on my hands. The other boards where I help moderate are thriving. There is a mod team and no single person carries the whole burden.
At the very least, it's good to browse more than one forum. Forums have individual character and sub-forums within forums, even more so.
