This is an offer of proof that the stated unemployment rate of 5.5 % is misleading.

    image: http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9JJez3ob39c/VXHIO7Erd6I/AAAAAAAAeFs/krv7bf9cN5M/s400/Nonfarm%2B2015-06D.png

click on chart for sharper image

Table A-15 is where one can find a better approximation of what the unemployment rate really is.

Notice I said "better" approximation not to be confused with "good" approximation.

The official unemployment rate is 5.5%. However, if you start counting all the people who want a job but gave up, all the people with part-time jobs that want a full-time job, all the people who dropped off the unemployment rolls because their unemployment benefits ran out, etc., you get a closer picture of what the
unemployment rate is. That number is in the last row labeled U-6.

U-6 is much higher at 10.8%. Both numbers would be way higher still, were it not for millions dropping out of the labor force over the past few years.

Some of those dropping out of the labor force retired because they wanted to retire. The rest is disability fraud, forced retirement, discouraged workers, and kids moving back home because they cannot find a job.

    DL,

Either you're being intellectually dishonest by using that article, or you're not as smart as you claim to be. Comparing Texas to Massachusetts & New York? The author didn't take into account the cost of living in NY or MA, two of the most expensive areas to live in, so of course wages must be higher. (A small one-bedroom apartment in NYC runs about $2500-3000 a month.) If you didn't know that, I repeat, you're not that smart. Try these on.

    https://www.expatistan.com/cost-of-living/country/united-states#all-cities

    cost of living map.jpg

Here's the index that goes with the map above. I had to cut out parts so I could squeeze in the areas covered by your misleading article.

All 10 States Losing Congressional Seats Tilt Democratic

Five of the eight states that are gaining seats skew Republican

by Frank Newport December 27, 2010

PRINCETON, NJ -- Each of the 10 states losing congressional seats as a result of the newly announced 2010 census reapportionment process is politically Democratic, based on a Gallup political identification measure from the first six months of this year. Five of the eight states gaining seats skew Republican.

    [IMG] [IMG]

The results of the decennial census are used to reapportion the 435 House seats assigned to the 50 states. Each state receives a minimum of one congressional seat, with the remaining 385 seats apportioned according to the states' relative population sizes. The results of this process are inherently political. States that gain congressional seats have more power in Congress, and -- because electoral votes are directly related to the number of congressional seats held by each state -- more election clout.

Over the years, relative changes in population across the states have resulted in extraordinary shifts in political power. The traditionally Democratic state of New York, for example, has gone from 45 congressional seats after the 1940 census to 27 seats after the 2010 census. On the other hand, Texas, in recent decades a reliably Republican state, has gone from 21 to 36 seats during the same time frame.

Nine of the 10 states that lost congressional seats as a result of this year's census are in the Northeast or Midwest. The exception is Louisiana, whose population loss at least partly as a result of Hurricane Katrina cost it a seat. Politically, all 10 of these "losing" states skew Democratic in political orientation, based on Gallup's latest state political identification data from January through June of this year. The two states that each lost two seats, Ohio and New York, have a net Democratic political identification of +7 and +19, respectively. The Democratic margin in the other eight losing states ranges from +20 in Massachusetts to +1 in Missouri.

The eight states that gained congressional seats this year present a more mixed political picture. Texas was the big winner, gaining four seats as a result of its extraordinary growth from a population of almost 21 million in 2000 to 25 million in 2010. Texas has a net Democratic party identification of -3, meaning that more Texas adults identify as Republicans than as Democrats. On the other hand, Florida gained two seats, and has a net Democratic identification of +4. Party identification skews Republican in four of the remaining six states, all of which gained one congressional seat, ranging from a -32 net Democratic margin in Utah (Utah is the most Republican state) to -3 in Georgia. Both Nevada and Washington have net positive Democratic party identifications.

Anyone can find something on the internet that confirms what they want to believe. The chart you posted is not even attributed to a credible source. My data comes from the US. Bureau of Labor Statistics.

    http://research.stlouisfed.org/fred2/data/UNRATE.txt

I see no reason to believe that their computations of the unemployment rate have become less accurate or honest since the presidency of George the Lesser.

In an earlier thread I excerpted an article from the New Yorker that said that while the unemployment rate has declined under President Obama, median income adjusted for inflation has also declined because many people who lost jobs during the Great Recession are currently working at jobs that pay less, because many people have gone for years without a raise, and many people have had to take pay cuts to keep their jobs. This partially explains why the President has not been given more credit for an economic recovery .

    https://forum.xnxx.com/threads/the-income-chart-that-explains-american-politics.360623/

Meanwhile the stock market reaches new heights. If the growing imbalance in gross income is to be dealt with, it can only be dealt with a more progressive tax system, stronger labor unions, and other reforms that are being advocated by Bernie Sanders.

Well, first thing we could do is stop wasting billions of dollars feeding, housing and educating illegal immigrants.

Next, I would direct the FBI to investigate and prosecute Social Security and Medicaid fraud.

Next I would make all foreign companies doing business in the US pay the same corporate tax that domestic companies do. This would end domestic companies and corporations avoiding taxes by headquartering their business overseas.

Next, I would legalize all soft drugs and tax them on the federal level and increase the sales tax on alcohol and tobacco. I would send half of the money to drug prevention, education and rehabilitation programs.

Then there is the nonsense programs that taxpayer money should never be spent on like, $19.6 million annually on the International Fund for Ireland. The money goes for projects like pony-trekking centers and golf videos.

And last year, the National Endowment for the Humanities spent $4.2 million to conduct a nebulous “National Conversation on Pluralism and Identity.” Obviously, talk radio wasn’t considered good enough.

The Department of Education spent $34 million supposedly helping Americans become better shoppers and homemakers.

Social Security Administration’s $25 billion a year Supplemental Security Income (SSI) program.

Almost 250,000 children qualify for SSI checks because they can’t participate in “age appropriate activities.” Worse, thousands of prisoners get SSI checks relating to their alleged disabilities—costing taxpayers about $20 million a year.

The list goes on and on.....

I keep thinking we can't get any dumber.
Hilary goes on the stump yapping about needing a 20 day voting window. You know, cause those rascal Republicans have disenfranchised so many minority voters. Huh?
And the Publicans fell into it. They froth at the mouth and piss and moan that any real American can manage to vote one day every four years, or do an early vote, or whatever. And, they fall into the trap of defending Hilary's charge about disenfranchisement.

    Bullshit.

She's got nothing on the $18 TRILLION debt, immigration, the economy, or for that matter what to do about ISIS. And she flat refuses to talk about her PAC, the Clinton foundation and where it's money comes from, or her private State Department server.

So she cooks up this bullshit 20 day voting window.

And the Publicans fell right into it.

    (sigh) ................................................................

Huh. Exactly the same tactic the dog uses; when confronted with uncomfortable facts, difuse and confuse.

    We are truly fucked.

There is no tally in that article about what eliminating all that "waste" would save, even if we could agree to eliminate it. Whenever Republican politicians get serious about cutting so called "waste" they discover that what seems like waste to some is essential to others. Frequently these others are Republican voters.

The chief contradiction in Republican thinking is the belief that it is fiscally responsible to cut taxes while raising military spending. Every argument in favor of increased military spending is an argument for raising taxes to pay for it.

The number of foreign-born individuals holding jobs in the United States increased by 279,000 to 25,098,000 in May, according to data released Friday by the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

In January 2009, when President Obama took office, there were 21,375,000 foreign-born workers employed in the United States. Since then, the number has increased by 3,723,000.

In its data on foreign-born workers, the BLS does not distinguish between legal immigrants to the United States, who are permitted to work here, and illegal aliens, who are not.

“The foreign born are persons who reside in the United States but who were born outside the country or one of its outlying areas to parents who were not U.S. citizens,” says BLS.

Most liberals do not understand that immigration contributes to the growing income gap.

This refusal to make connections is comparable to the unwillingness of conservatives to acknowledge the contradictions between desiring lower taxes, a more expensive military, and a balanced budget.

Well instead of increasing military spending, how about Obama just stop cutting funding for the current military budget...

So, how big are the current cuts? Historically speaking, they’re incredibly large. In 2011, the defense budget was 4.7% of total gross domestic product; this year’s percentage will be 2.7%. In real dollars, US defense spending is set to plummet from $705.6 in 2011 billion to $496 billion. That represents a budget cut of approximately 30%.

US MILITARY SPENDING STILL UP 45% OVER PRE-9/11 LEVELS; MORE THAN NEXT 7 COUNTRIES COMBINED

the U.S. spends more on its military than the next seven top-spending countries combined, according to new figures compiled by the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI).

That’s nearly three times as much as China, and more than seven times as much as Russia.

Then they're not very good at it. Because if they were, you'd be locked up in a prison or mental health facility. Or dead.

Tis amazing the number of conspiracy theorists who think they know what is really going on. And big brother has done nothing about it. Strange. It doesn't work that way in say Russia.

No, your Country is not becoming a Police State; it is becoming a Monarchy. The similarities between what happened to the Roman Republic and what is happening now in yours is uncanny.

    So lets see how our spending works for 2015;
Why, lookit there; Pensions are 33% higher than defense spending. Pensions means for all public employees. Huh.
And lookit health care; highest single category. That would be your ACA, your medicare and medicaid and so forth. Oh, and medical care for government employees.
Defense? $815 Billion. That includes 163 Billion in veterans benefits and another $65 Billion for "foreign aid ....... you know, like when a tsunami wipes out a country, or an earthquake kills a few thousand people and the first responders are the military.

Nice try Dog, trying to divert with defense spending.
