What do I think? I think I've been confused about the rules for years now. I mean, I've never heard that if a legal age fictional character is naïve or uneducated in sex, that situation is impossible. Perhaps that's the difference in cultures. I don't know.

In my own case, and I will only speak for me, if the story is clear about the ages and development of the character, I have no reason to pull the story. We writers create our scenarios based on real life at times. I know how I was raised and how my daughters were raised. I know young college-bound kids who have no clue about sexuality. I think that the idea that someone doesn't believe that a fictional character cannot have any clue about sexuality so a story should be pulled is complete and utter bullshit. If that gets me removed as a mod and banned as a member, then you heard it from me first.

This policy, the removal of a story or series of stories, is just indicative of the lack of quality management at this site. I've never, ever, seen volunteers treated like shit as I have around here, myself having been one of them for a while. I think the most ridiculous aspect is that you have an ex-porn worker passing judgment on whether or not an 18 year old could be innocent sexually. That's absurd. That's like asking a child rapist to review the rules for an internet chat room for kids. The story that prompted all of this had a million hits, and no complaints. None. Not one. It was read by at least 3 moderators (with 10 CAW victories among them, so they are authors) and it was written BY a moderator.

Utterly insane behavior. This site could be pulling in money. Would I object to some advertising in the forums? Hell no. Or on the story site? Again, hell no. With as many hits as it gets, it could be a source of real revenue for the site owner, and then maybe he'd wake the fuck up and see what an asset he has here.

On second thought, no, that would require half a brain or better, and this guy and his flunky has proved that collectively they don't have shit for brains. Even shit for brains has a pulse.

The issue isn't just stating an age. Some writers talk about sex with girls who still take a bottle and wear diapers, and then claim the girl is eighteen. That pretty obviously won't fly.

The issue apparently is sophistication. It's been deemed "unrealistic" that an eighteen year old virgin would be ignorant about sexual arousal and her body's response to it. Supposedly anyone of that age would know all about it, virgin or not.

 

Let me get this straight - the 'no under 18's rule' I could understand, as 18 is the porn industry standard, and internationally governments are seeking to eliminate child pornography (rightly so) so the owners of this site pre-empted any potential problems. I didn't neccessarily agree with it, my opinion was that a line in the sand needed to be drawn but it was drawn too deeply and too far down the beach, but I accepted it. It's their site, we are here by choice and must obey their rules. It seems a little over-the-top, especially as over here the age of consent is 16 (15 in France and one or two other European countries) and we are talking simply about written fiction, no illustrations or pictures. For instance, I would be forbidden to give any details on losing my virginity (I was 15, with a boy of 16 who was in my class at school). Draconian, but understandable.

Now, a story about an adult losing his/her virginity would be contrary to the rules? Have I got that right? When I was 22, and sexually experienced (very much so) I met a chap aged 35 who was very sweet but quite shy and nervous about women. So much so that he was still a virgin. We dated for a little while, I took him to bed and a jolly good time was had by all - nothing seedy or untoward, but if I read these rules correctly if I were to tell that true story it would be removed?

Mods, I think it simplifies your job: before your job could be described in two words as "almost impossible". Now, the word "almost" has been removed from that description.

 

It simplifies it for me. If the age is legal (and is physically describe as such), they can ask whatever the hell they want. It's a fucking piece of fiction!

It was one of my stories that got pulled. I admit I failed to mention the girl's age as a specific, spelled-out number, but I thought I gave more than enough context cues to make it clear she was old enough for sex. It seems I was wrong, and so were the moderators and others who read it here, along with the million or so people who read it on the sex story site without complaint. The story is gone now, so that issue has been resolved to the site's liking.

The issue was that the story was "unrealistic". In a "realistic" story, eighteen year olds don't have questions about sex, or so we're told.

I admit I'm pretty clueless about what's considered acceptable at this point. Hopefully this thread will bring some clarification.

The age of concent in France is 15 (as mentioned by Janie) but in Germany its 14 and in Austria just 13.

The site's age limit isn't the issue. We went through all that ad nauseum before. The owner says it's eighteen, so it's eighteen. In some countries the age of consent is actually older than eighteen, and in some it's younger, but eighteen is the number the owner chose. He pays the bills, so he makes the rules.

 

I admit, I was initially baffled as to what content was even being prohibited, much less why. After additional explanation, it's my understanding that the issue was that a writer might (and some presumably were) expressly say that their characters are at least 18 but then write them as if they were sexually naive 12 year olds and create what is, essentially, kiddie porn in sheep's clothing, interchangeable with any contraband story in every way except a single digit of a purely cosmetic number.

Now it's being spelled out (here, at least) that a story about a wide-eyed child bride with the emotional IQ of someone still losing her baby teeth isn't fooling anyone, even if you say it's her 18th birthday when she gets buggered up the butt by her stepfather. Have I got it right? They are, essentially, extending the prohibition to enforce the spirit of the policy rather than just the letter?
