The way it's gonna work is that you can send me a PM with a verification picture. The picture has to contain you and forum name on piece of paper or on your body and your username or my username instead of the website name, if you prefer that.

    You have it backward.

Withholding is an advance by you to the government. You don't really pay it until April 15 of the following year. Until then it makes money in escrow.

At the end of the year, if you get money returned to you, all you get is the principal. You do not get the interest and investment income that was made on your money.

Personal income tax is not like sales tax, which is collected at the point of sale and remitted within fifteen to thirty days. Personal income tax is typically paid after a fiscal close. The withholding system is merely cash flow management. It is done to keep revenue moving to the government throughout the year and also as a favor to the taxpayers, because if they had to pay their entire tax liability all at once at end of the year, most ordinary citizens wouldn't be able to cough it up.

For businesses it does get murkier. For instance, I'm a small business owner. My company pays monthly estimated taxes. Businesses have varying fiscal periods, so they and their principals do pay throughout the year, and the government expects to earn interest on the estimated payments. Thus, penalties are steep if the monies are not remitted.

That aside, the personal withholding system is good public relations. It masks how much we are really paying. Most American citizens have no idea. Recently I was speaking politics to a "mixed couple" (female Democrat and male Republican). The woman is an Occupy sympathizer, and being from Massachusetts she loves Liz Warren. And she was ripping the one percent and how the one percent get all the breaks and how she's working fifty hours a week at a rotten job and the government is taking half of it and so on. At one point the boyfriend interrupted her and said, "You don't pay taxes." She went nuts. "I'll show you my fucking pay stubs," etc. He gently said, "You get it all back. All of it." She insisted she doesn't get back all she pays, not by a longshot. He said, "L___, I do your taxes. You get all of it back. The only thing you don't get back is Social Security."

She went absolutely nuts. She refused to believe it.

You refuse to believe it, too, apparently. And nothing I say will convince you.

So, who didn't watch the debate?

    I didn't not watch it.

Trump was an unpolished bully. As I expected. And the debate wouldn't make me more likely to vote for him.

But I do have to say that I sympathized with him, from the word Go, due to the way the moderators set him up with the first two questions. First the set-up on running independent, and then the question from that bitch, Meggie Kelly, about how Trump treats women. And then the other dude, giving him thirty seconds to produce proof that Mexico takes our best and sends us their worst. (Thirty seconds. How generous.)

    Trump sounded uncouth and unpresidential.

On the other hand we have Barack Obama, who sounds polished and presidential.

I would have trouble voting for Trump. But I bet his performance last night will lift his numbers even higher.

Rand Paul looked and sounded like a slimey little weasel.

Ted Cruz sounds great. I've always liked Cruz. But he won't get a single Democrat, and that makes him unelectable.

Scott Walker... I've always liked the sound of him, but since I don't watch TV, last night was my first look at him. He reminds me of the funny looking car salesman in Fargo, scamming the hayseeds into buying Tru-Coat.

The ladies will love Rubio. I sure as hell love him. A young Ricardo Montalban. Welcome to Fantasy Island! Mmmmm! Does it even matter that he's a fucking RINO?

John Kasic... the local favorite. He sounded pretty good. But he joined in on the competition to see who's the most pro-life, and as I recall he piled it on. I'm conservative, but I'm also an atheist, and so I get all skittish over how the Bible Belt has to inject Jesus into every goddamned fucking thing.

I don't like Chris Christie, but I had a lot of fun watching him jam his thumb in Rand Paul's eye.

Ben Carson... he's great. Can he get the nomination? I don't know. I wish. Jeeze. Where the hell was he eight years ago? If Carson had been America's first black president, this would be a much different country today.

Personally, the big surprise of the debate was Jeb Bush. I went in expecting to detest the guy. But he spoke articulately, made convincing arguments, conveyed polished mannerisms, and generally stood out among the rest. Jeb Bush looked and sounded-- dare I say it-- presidential.

    What misinformation have I spread?

If I am a typical leftist, why do I agree so much with Charles Murray?

Moody's Analytics: Democrat Will Win White House
By Greg Richter | Wednesday, 05 Aug 2015 11:07 PM

A Democrat will win the presidency – though just barely – in 2016, according to an analysis by Moody's Analytics.

Moody's has correctly forecast every presidential election since 1980, the year it started, The Hill notes. In 2012, Moody's predicted President Barack Obama's exact number of electoral votes at 332.

The current model says the Democratic nominee will get 270 electoral votes – the exact number needed to win – while the Republican will fall just short of the magic number with 268. Moody's bases its prediction on the economic and political conditions in each state.

    ---------

    CNN July 30, 2015

Washington (CNN)Sen. Bernie Sanders runs far behind Hillary Clinton in the Democratic nomination fight, but the socialist from Vermont would defeat New York real estate mogul and Republican frontrunner Donald Trump in a presidential general election, a new poll suggests.

A Quinnipiac University poll released Thursday shows that in a hypothetical general election match-up, Sanders tops Trump 44% to 39%. The data point shows that although Trump is leading the GOP pack now, he could prove to be a disaster for Republicans in a broader presidential contest next year.

Trump also trails Democratic Party frontrunner Hillary Clinton by a margin of 12 percentage points in the poll and to Vice President Joe Biden by 13 percentage points should he join the race and win the party nomination.

    ---------

This is a volatile election season. The voters are in a surly mood. None of the establishment candidates are generating much excitement. Donald Trump is a loose cannon who can do much damage to the Republican Party. If the election was held today, and if Trump was the Republican candidate, any Democrat would win. If Trump was running as a third party candidate, any Democrat would win.

On the other hand, if Trump supports the Republican ticket, it stands a good chance of winning. Republicans need to find a way to feed Trump's ravenous ego.

Democrats need to be careful with Trump too. If they make him angry at them, he may support the Republican ticket out of spite.

I didn't end up watching it, but I figured it would be available, in whole, on the web (and it is) so one could fast forward thru the commercials and certain other non-essential parts that one might want to skip over to save time.

But one of my favorite lines:

Best lines from the GOP debaters not named Donald Trump

By Eric Garland - 08/07/15 09:49 AM EDT

As expected, Donald Trump delivered a bevy of memorable lines and zingers at the first GOP debate that drew big reactions from the crowd in Cleveland.

But he wasn't the only one that riled up the audience with witty remarks or clever jokes.

Here are some of the best lines of last night's debate from the candidates not named Donald Trump.

I thought Carson's remark about having removed half a brain was pretty funny.

No, doughnut head, I was trying to be nice.

But since you can't help but be a doughnut head, we covered it before. And wherever it is that you get your ridiculous inferences from Charles Murray, you can't say that you agree with him, because you've never read his books. You don't agree with Murray. You agree with Cliff's Notes. Or some half-assed blogger. What difference does it make where you get your dumb ass opinions? Why do you have to derail every thread with your bigoted tripe?

    Because you're a doughnut head. That's why.

It was funny, and it shows that even Carson will lie.

Well, not lie. Stretch, for comedy's sake.

Removing half the brain is a procedure called hemispherectomy. Carson isn't old enough to have done it. It used to be a radical procedure against aggressive neuroblastoma. But it hasn't been done since the early seventies. Even before we had better procedures, it was recognized that hemispherectomy did more harm than good, in terms of robbing terminal patients of any last chance at a quality of life.

And now of course there are far superior procedures.

If Carson actually did one, he would have been a kid still in grad school. Likely a tall tale.

But he's probably come really close. I doubt he's taken a pound and a half out of living person's skull. But maybe a pound and small change. ;)

Point is, he lied but he's the real deal. Great surgeon, brilliant neurologist, and he's also pretty funny. Would he make a great president? Shit. He'd have to be an improvement over the last several.

The basic ideas of The Bell Curve are three. Intelligence is the single most important factor in determining academic and economic success, and other beneficial outcomes in life as well. It is primarily determined genetically. Intelligence averages differ significantly between the races. The truth of those three assertions was obvious before The Bell Curve was published. They have become more obvious with the failure of No Child Left Behind.

What I am is too mature to get into a silly insult and name calling contest with you.

It was one of the most anticipated political face-offs ever and it looks like Fox News Channel’s GOP Debate last night was the most watched primary debate ever — Republican or Democrat. In fact, it was the biggest cable news telecast ever. With Donald Trump taking center stage among the 10 candidates picked for the big face-off in Cleveland, 24 million viewers tuned into watch the shenanigans on FNC from 9 – 11 PM ET. The cable news network had a huge 7.9 million viewers watching among the key 25-54 demo.

Billionaire Donald Trump is the winner of the Drudge Report Poll taken following the first Republican presidential debate.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz came in second place in the online poll of more than 190,000 Drudge Report visitors, which was taken directly following the debate on Thursday night. The poll only included the candidates who participated in the Fox News debate with the top 10 candidates.

Here is a breakdown of the poll results:
    • Donald Trump: 38 percent
    • Ted Cruz: 15.5 percent
    • Neurosurgeon Dr. Ben Carson: 10.2 percent
    • Florida Sen. Marco Rubio: 9.7 percent
    • Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul: 9.3 percent
    • Ohio Gov. John Kasich: 4.9 percent
    • Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker: 4.5 percent
    • Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee: 3.5 percent
    • Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush: 2.5 percent
    • New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie: 1.4 percent

This just in from Boston AM talk radio:

The afternoon producer, Sandy, says: No. Trump will not have a "war on women" problem. They made it stick on Romney, but Trump doesn't roll over the way Romney did. Meghan Kelly did her best to kill him but she fired blanks.

The host, Boston Herald columnist Howie Carr, says: Trump did everything he had to do. His first political debate. EVER. (caps are italics.) A businessman who's never held political office, on his first national debut, surrounded by career politicians. And he held his own. Trump beat every expectation.

Sidekick and ex-Fox News Boston fill-in personality "VB": You might be right. All the polls a day after show that Trump's numbers suffered no damage. And by the next debate this one will be forgotten.

Howie Carr observes: The way they made the whole show about killing the golden goose, you'd think they'd be a little more grateful.

"VB" interjects: Last night's Gallup numbers show TWICE (italics) as many viewers of last night's debate, of any other debate that Fox has hosted.

    Conclusion: Trump still leads.

The loser in this debate: Fox Network.

Yes, it is looking that way. Amazing. Fox News tried its best to kill him dead, but all they did was help him.

I said it before and I'd say it again: I don't know if I could vote for him. He's too crass for my tastes. But that's what people apparently want. Lots of people-- LOTS-- are disillusioned by how we gave Republicans legislative majorities in both houses, and we have nothing for it. Nothing.

Trump is striking a nerve, and he's not going away. Every attack by the media makes him stronger.
