D.I.Y. in the shower prior to sex is obviously counterproductive.
Your girlfriend has every reason to be annoyed if she's the one that's exhausted after 20 minutes, it might go down better if you were exhausted.
Presuming you don't pound away for hours on your own in the shower to ejaculate, there's probably that age old communication problem going on.
Why can't you finish yourself off with your girlfriend?
With respect, are you attracted to your girlfriend?
It might be a psychological problem if you feel pressured.
I seriously doubt it has anything to do with that elitist club you were a member of during your teens and early twenties.
